Language Circle

Language Circle is an open and informal space to practise speaking and listening in another language. Each month focuses on either French or Spanish, alternating as the year goes on. You don’t need to be fluent to take part. The group is made up of learners, native speakers and people somewhere in between. Sessions are relaxed and focus on conversation, sharing words, and helping each other learn. Marx Reading Group

The Marx Reading Group is a bi-monthly space for reading and discussing Capital together. The aim is to make Marx’s writing accessible by working through it slowly, sharing thoughts, questions and ideas as a group. Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to Marx or have read him before. There’s no need for prior knowledge, and all readings are available for free online. Each session focuses on a set section of Capital, with time for open discussion and contributions from everyone who wants to speak. At the end of each meeting, the group agrees on the next reading and invites volunteers to introduce sections at future sessions. SET Social DIY Community Garden - Sunday Gardening Sessions

Ever wanted to grow your own food, or just spend a quiet Sunday surrounded by green things and good people?The DIY Community Garden at SET Social is a shared space for planting, learning, and spending time together outdoors. Whether you’re watering seedlings, pulling weeds, sharing snacks, or simply sitting in the sunshine, there’s always something gentle and satisfying happening in the garden. The garden is looked after collectively by SET Social members, local neighbours, and anyone curious enough to get their hands a little dirty. We grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers, and care for the space with curiosity, collaboration, and kindness at the heart of things. Sunday sessions are open, informal, and pressure-free. No gardening experience is needed and there’s no expectation to stay the whole time. Bring yourself, a mug for tea, and if you like, a plant or cutting to share. Want to get involved? Drop by during one of our gardening sessions every Sunday 2-4pm. No booking or experience required. Sunday Open Session with Folk of the Round Table

Join Folk of the Round Table at SET Social from 7pm every Sunday for their weekly folk jam session. This inclusive gathering celebrates the oratory tradition of sharing songs, stories and poems around a fire, by a hearth or in a tavern. Bring an instrument if you have one, and a traditional song you’d like to perform or pass on. It’s called folk music for a reason. The night is about people coming together to keep these traditions alive and build community through shared music. Every session is different, but the ethos remains the same: all abilities, all welcome. Folk of the Round Table have proudly hosted this folk night for over eight years, connecting singers and musicians from around the world. Come along and join the circle. Permacomputing club

How can we rethink our relationship to harmful technologies? Join the Permacomputing Club every Monday at SET Social for a weekly meet-up exploring this question and more sustainable ways to use and think about digital tools. Inspired by permaculture, permacomputing is an anti-capitalist project that challenges the environmental and social damage caused by modern technology. Drawing on ideas from degrowth, ecologism, decolonial thinking and intersectional feminism, it looks for alternatives to the energy-intensive systems shaping today’s tech landscape. Each session emphasises collaborative discussion over solo tinkering. Participants are invited to share a problem they’ve read or experienced, where they’ll receive feedback and work together to find solutions. In a culture dominated by harmful tech practices, including AI, the Permacomputing Club aims to build a more thoughtful space to explore new and different possibilities. All are welcome, though women and non-binary participants are particularly encouraged to join. The group meets every Monday evening and alternates between writing together, sharing work, offering feedback, and experimenting creatively as a group. It can be hard to find dedicated time to practice; this club provides a space for you to focus on your own projects. Zine and collage night at SET Social is open to anyone who wants to cut, paste, draw, write or simply spend some quiet time working alongside others.
