A Sacred Stones site, the barrow is hosting this gentle morning event to bring people together to watch the first light enter the stone chamber, listen to the early birdsong, and enjoy the company of others as a new day begins. A Welcoming Space for All The barrow is a place for everyone. We welcome visitors from all backgrounds, philosophies, and viewpoints. This gathering does not follow any specific tradition; instead, the barrow offers a space dedicated to our shared human connection and the quiet enjoyment of nature together. Important Attendance Information To help us manage the morning safely and ensure a peaceful experience for everyone, we ask that you note the following guidelines: Free Registration: Admission is entirely free, but space is limited. Every person attending must register for a free ticket in advance via our booking link so the barrow can host everyone safely. What to Expect: This is a relaxed, quiet event. The early morning hour can be chilly and damp, so please dress in warm layers and wear sturdy footwear. You are very welcome to bring a flask with a hot drink.

Soulton Hall is pleased to host the Annual North Shropshire Dinner with Helen Morgan MP on Saturday, 04 July 2026. This gathering has become a key event in our local calendar, bringing together residents from across the constituency for an evening of community connection and hospitality. Held in the historic Soulton Court, the event focuses on the long-standing Shropshire tradition of open civic dialogue over a shared meal. Tickets will be released shortly. This summer, British Touring Shakespeare brings a bold and visceral new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s gothic classic to the Tudor landscape of Soulton Hall. Standing before a Victorian scientific society, Mina recounts her experiences fighting the Count, attempting to validate her claims against the heavy skepticism of the academics who surround her. British Touring Shakespeare’s FRANKENSTEIN at Soulton Hall (2025) In this version, Mina is not a victim but a recognized vampire hunter. The play follows her as she fights to reclaim her truth from an establishment that would rather see her silenced, offering a sharp, intellectual perspective on the events of the gothic masterpiece. Soulton Hall, built in 1556 as a monument to Renaissance humanist thought and scientific curiosity, provides a powerful backdrop for this struggle between evidence and disbelief. As the “pungency of the night” settles over our historic grounds, the atmosphere of the Victorian shadows meets the gravity of our Tudor history. This performance brings the Bard’s most iconic tragedy to a site that stood as a center of Renaissance culture and thought during the mid-Tudor period, just before the Elizabethan era began. [Click here for the ticket link] The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is rooted not just in a feud, but in the coercive, abusive structures imposed by an older generation. This production handles the play’s themes with the seriousness they deserve, stripping away sentiment to reveal a story of survival and rebellion. Bitish Touring Shakespeare performing at Soulton Hall (Two Gentilmen of Verona, 2020) As the sun sets over the Soulton landscape, we witness the giddy, heart-racing love of youth as an act of courageous resistance. In a world defined by dysfunctional factionalism and the darkening skies of parental tyranny, this love becomes, seemingly, the only space of authenticity. British Touring Shakespare bring MSND to Soulton (2025) Watching this exploration of a society torn apart by rival factions is uniquely powerful at Soulton Hall. Our site is a rare Tudor survivor, built by Sir Rowland Hill in the 1550s during a time of immense political danger. Sir Rowland—the inspiration for “Old Sir Rowland”—designed this landscape as a monument to harmony and humanist ideals. In a striking theatrical event, The Whole Pack, a daring all-female ensemble, brings a visceral folk-horror interpretation of Macbeth to a landscape that has watched centuries of history unfold. This production strips the “Scottish Play” to its blood-stained bones, exploring what happens when the bonds of a mutual society are traded for the sake of a solitary crown. As the prophecy takes hold: “It will have blood, they say; blood will have blood.” The Story: A Breakdown of Trust The play opens in the aftermath of a violent uprising. Theatre in Epidaurus Court, Soulton Hall The Spirit of Sir Rowland The play finds its moral anchor in the memory of “Old Sir Rowland.” For those who know the history of this land, he is far more than a character on a page. He serves as a tribute to Sir Rowland Hill, the Tudor polymath and relative of William Shakespeare who once held these lands. AS YOU LIKE IT Blue Plaque at Soulton Hall ‘Old’ Sir Rowland, Hill – Shakespearian hero. As Orlando declares: “I am no villain; I am the youngest son of Sir Rowland de Boys… The spirit of my father grows strong in me.” To witness this story at Soulton is to attend a homecoming. Hamlet: A Stalled Reckoning in the Moot Hall It is with great pleasure that we announce the next chapter in our theatrical journey: Hamlet, directed by Naomi Coleman. On September 5 and September 6, 2026, Soulton Hall will host a candlelight production of this masterpiece, led by the visionary Naomi Coleman and the Aethelflaed Theatre Company. This production represents the conclusion of a remarkable seven-year cycle. Over this period, all the world has indeed been a stage here at Soulton, as we have platformed masterpieces ranging from Macbeth and As You Like It to Romeo and Juliet. Now, we prepare to unlock this particular tragedy and add it to the Soulton canon. In Hamlet, the “law’s delay” is no accident; it is a calculated tool for those who believe their titles and their capacity for obstruction grant them immunity from the rules. Polonius embodies this “insolence of office.” As a fantasist who intercepts private correspondence and then manipulates reports, he manufactures narratives to serve his own ends. His actions represent a dangerous overreach, doubling down on his initial transgressions to create a false pretext in an attempt to bury the truth of his own conduct.
