Sepas Service

We are delighted to have a large number of Persians worshipping at Liverpool Cathedral. In early 2014 we started ‘Sepas’, a Persian congregation where the worship and teaching is all either in Farsi or translated. Sepas meets on a Sunday afternoon in our Lady Chapel. Worship starts at 1:00pm and we serve refreshments after the service. We would be delighted to welcome you and your family – and we have plenty of activities for children. Many members of Sepas also attend our Sunday Eucharist. What we do Sunday 1pm to 2:30pm start : “Sepas”. A weekly meeting of prayer, praise and Bible teaching (translated into Farsi). Held usually in the Lady Chapel. Monday. We hold various sessions for people looking into baptism, confirmation and exploring their faith on a Monday. Above and Beyond Tour

The Above and Beyond Tour is your chance to venture into unseen areas of Liverpool Cathedral. Our cathedral is a national architectural treasure, and thousands enjoy exploring it each week. It has many hidden corners – areas that are usually ‘off limits’ to the general public. That is about to change as we launch our ‘Above & Beyond’ guided tours. In small groups, you will be guided through the Cathedral from top to bottom by our expert guides, including a trip up to the top of the tower. Length: Approximately 2 hours Cost: £25 per person plus booking fee Book your place Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour start time at The Welcome Desk The tour includes many steps along with some very narrow passages so regrettably, the tour cannot accommodate those who might have issues with those challenges. The tour may not be suitable for those who have mobility issues or who are Acrophobic or Claustrophobic. All participants must be 14 years or older. New dates will be added every few weeks, so please check back if your preferred dates are not yet available. Tickets are sold as non-returnable and non-refundable. This programme is subject to change with no notice. We reserve the right to cancel this event. If we do need to cancel all tickets will be refunded. Scott Circle Launch: A Look Inside the Archives

In the Cathedral’s Lady Chapel, Cathedral Archivist Canon Val Jackson will guide guests through treasures preserved in our archive! Join us for a special evening at Liverpool Cathedral hosted by the Very Revd Sue Jones, Dean of Liverpool. In the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral’s Lady Chapel, Cathedral Archivist Canon Val Jackson will guide guests through some of the most fascinating treasures preserved in the Cathedral’s archive. Drawing on remarkable objects from the collection, Val will share the stories behind items that illuminate the rich and sometimes surprising history of this extraordinary building. Guests will also have a rare opportunity to view several artefacts up close, including medals designed by Edward Carter Preston, the original Lady Chapel Frontal designs, and a unique addition to the archive: a bespoke serviette from a royal dinner held in 1904. Book Now The evening will also mark the launch of the Scott Circle, a new giving community dedicated to supporting the care and preservation of Liverpool Cathedral. Members of the Scott Circle receive exclusive updates, behind-the-scenes insights, and invitations to special events that bring them closer to the life and history of the Cathedral. On this tour, you will also find the many hidden creatures, symbols and seagoing vessels hidden in the intricate carvings, and learn more about the folk who built this architectural wonder over 74 years. Eucharist (BCP)

A simple service of holy communion using the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) All are welcome to join us at Liverpool Cathedral for this Eucharist service. The Book of Common Prayer (BCP) is the classic service book of the Anglican Church. Its first edition was published in 1549 and, after revisions in 1552, 1559, 1604 and 1637 it arrived in its standard form in 1662. It helped establish the balance between the Catholic and Reformed elements of Anglican theology and doctrine. For over three hundred years, almost every service in Anglican churches around the world used the Prayer Book and it remains in use in many churches even today. The Prayer Book is most loved for the rich beauty of its language which sounds grand and poetic in almost every sentence. It has nurtured the faith of millions and is a great treasure of the church. Every Friday, at 12:05pm, we have a service of Holy Communion according to the Prayer Book’s order. We use the collects in their original form and the sequence of readings is from the King James Bible. There are a few (authorised) variations from the standard text. Devotees of the Prayer Book will recognise what we mean by using the summary of the law in place of the commandments at the beginning of the service. Otherwise it is pure 1662.
