Club Bananas: Spirals Collage Workshop

Club Bananas returns to SET Social this April with a new collage theme: Spirals. Expect circular forms, repeating patterns, layered shapes and hypnotic compositions. Following the past few months of workshops centred around nature-inspired themes such as Spring, Blossom and Freshness, this session takes a slightly different direction. Spirals are a recurring focus in Banana Holdwin’s current artwork. Found across cultures for thousands of years, they appear in early Maltese, Siberian, Polynesian, Chinese and African artworks, and continue through history in decorative, spiritual and artistic practices. They are often understood as cosmic, protective or mystical forms. Led by local artist Banana Holdwin, Club Bananas is an inclusive art club centred on craft-making, collage and mixed media experimentation. The sessions centre creativity without pressure, encouraging participants to explore freely, embrace messiness and enjoy the process rather than focus on perfection. It is a space to connect with others, experiment creatively and let your inner child play. Each month introduces a new theme while keeping mixed media at the heart of the practice. Participants are always welcome to follow their own ideas alongside the theme. Session focus This session explores spiral-inspired collage using scrap paper, magazines and found materials.

Analogue Animation Workshop

Curious about animation beyond screens and software? This hands-on workshop offers an introduction to analogue and handmade animation techniques, as part of an ongoing monthly series focused on experimentation, play, and learning by doing. Each session explores a different approach to making moving images using tactile, low-tech methods. Led by artist and animator, Miranda Peyton Jones, the workshop is designed as an open, supportive space to try new ideas, learn practical techniques, and meet others interested in experimental animation. Participants can expect to leave with a short piece of moving image, along with printed materials created during the session. No previous animation or drawing experience is required. All materials are provided, and participants are welcome to bring their own materials if they wish.Please note that you will need a smartphone with the free Stop Motion Studio app downloaded before attending. Zine Making and Collage Club

A quiet and social space for making things with paper. Zine and collage night at SET Social is open to anyone who wants to cut, paste, draw, write or simply spend some quiet time working alongside others. You can start a new project, add to something ongoing, or make something small to take home. All materials are provided, including magazines, glue, scissors, pens, and paper. You are welcome to bring your own materials or works in progress if you prefer. You can come for the full two hours or drop in for a bit. SET Open Decks – Weekly DJ Open Booth Nights

A weekly open decks night for DJs, music lovers, and anyone curious to listen in. SET Open Decks is a weekly night happening at SET Social where the booth is open for anyone who wants to play music, experiment with tracks, or just hang out with other local DJs. The format is simple and low-pressure. DJs can jump on the decks, share favourite tracks, play back-to-back, or experiment with ideas on club-standard equipment. There’s no set list and no expectation to perform. You can play for a short while, stay longer, or just come to listen and hang out. The night is as much about listening as it is about playing. Whether you’re a DJ testing new material, someone learning by watching others, or just there to enjoy the music and the atmosphere, everyone is welcome. From time to time, SET Open Decks will also host informal workshops and skill-sharing sessions covering DJ techniques, library organisation, and industry tips. This Might Be The Place: Collage and Blackout Poetry Workshop

What does “place” mean to you? This Might Be The Place is a collage and poetry workshop inviting you to reflect on locations that feel meaningful, memorable or emotionally significant. Whether it is a sense of belonging or the experience of feeling out of place, the session offers space to explore personal stories through both words and visuals. The workshop begins with a series of short, accessible writing prompts to help spark ideas and get you started. From there, participants will transform their words into visual collages, working on postcard-sized pieces or with optional templates. Inspired by the expressive energy of German Expressionist theatre and a range of artist references, the session encourages emotional exploration and bold experimentation. Guidance and prompts will be offered throughout, while leaving plenty of room for your own interpretation and artistic voice. All levels are welcome. “We, the Living Archives” Publication Launch

Join us to celebrate the launch of We, the Living Archives. Three years ago, the Liberatory Archives and Memory programme at Whose Knowledge? invited memory workers of African descent and other minoritised communities in the UK to gather for a one-day event. Together, we asked: where and with whom do you do your memory work? What are your favourite archival and memory frameworks and practices? What are we dismantling? What are we dreaming of, and working towards? These questions—and our responses—did not end there. This publication brings together a collection of essays that emerged from the UK Community of Practice’s series of convenings in Bristol, Birmingham, London, and Brighton. From reflections on anticolonial archives and the politics of Black and diasporic cultural memory, to photo essays, poetry, conversations, and community-based storytelling, memory workers, artists, and archivists share reflections, research, and anticolonial practices that reimagine archives as living, collective spaces of resistance, solidarity, and liberation. The event will feature a collective conversation led by the publication’s editor, Dr Carol Ann Dixon, with some of the contributing authors.
