Step inside the setting of the Former City Watch House at Old Melbourne Gaol for a three-hour collaborative storytelling experience unlike anything you’ve played before. Operating from 1909 until 1994, the City Watch House served as Melbourne’s central custody centre – a stark holding place for those awaiting their court date. Today, its authentic cells and imposing atmosphere provide the perfect setting for Cell of Cthulhu, where tension, imagination and storytelling combine to transport players into unsettling worlds. Each game unfolds inside a real holding cell, heightening the sense of immersion as your story develops. Presented in partnership with Masters of Alchemy, Melbourne’s premier provider of theatrical tabletop role-playing experiences, this one-shot adventure is guided by a professional Game Master. Over three hours, players will unravel a complete, self-contained narrative – witnessing eerie worlds take shape and finding themselves drawn directly into the mystery. WHAT TO EXPECT – Three-hour, one-shot Call of Cthulhu adventure – Professional Game Master – Maximum of five players per table HELPFUL INFORMATION – Food and beverage service is not available onsite; however, guests are welcome to bring their own snacks. Before or after your session, you can enjoy dinner or drinks at one of the many nearby pubs, cafes and bars. – To book as a group, please purchase tickets in a single transaction.

Member Event: Dress Detectives at Old Magistrates Court

Discover the evolving world of fashion and society through the National Trust’s Fashion & Dress Collection, hosted at Old Magistrates Court. Led by one of the National Trust’s expert education facilitators, this immersive experience invites you to explore historic garments dating from the 1830s onwards. As you examine changing styles, silhouettes, manufacturing techniques and social expectations, you’ll uncover how clothing reflects broader shifts in women’s lives, freedoms and identities over time. With gloves on, you’ll engage directly with selected pieces from the collection, gaining rare insight into the craftsmanship, materials and cultural history stitched into each garment. It’s a hands-on encounter with history that reveals how fashion both responds to — and drives — change.
