An Audience With Lord Ian Botham

Lord Ian Botham, the former England captain, was one of the most impactful all-rounders of his generation with 14 centuries and 383 wickets in a career that spanned over 15 years. Through the 1980s, he was part of a golden generation of all-rounders in world cricket. The 1981 Ashes, which England won 3-1, have since come to be known as Botham’s Ashes for his starring performances with bat and ball. In 2007, Botham was knighted for his services to cricket and to charity. Prolific with both bat and ball, Ian Botham was the fastest to the double of 1000 runs and 100 wickets. He broke the World Record for most Test wickets, and finished his career with 5,200 runs and 383 wickets. Along with his former England cricket team mate Geoff Miller who will be hosting the evening, join Lord Ian, as he discusses his amazing career, and everything in between. Mozart: Clarinet Quintet in A major, K.581 Schubert: Octet in F major, D.803 For their final concert the quartet will be joined by the renowned clarinettist Julian Bliss to play two of the best-loved chamber works in the repertoire: Mozart’s hauntingly beautiful Clarinet Quintet and Schubert’s large scale – symphonic-like – but light-hearted and brilliant Octet. The Octet was written towards the end of Schubert’s life and was inspired by a request to compose a chamber work along the lines of Beethoven’s very popular Septet. John Robb: Punk Rock Ruined My Life

Jacky Power Poetry Workshop - Permission to Feel Free From Shame

This poetry workshop takes place at Pippbrook House, Reigate Road, Dorking, RH4 1SH Therapeutic poet and trauma therapist (MSc Addiction Psychology & Counselling, MBACP, EFTi), Jacky Power, returns to Pippbrook House with her new "Permission to Feel" workshop series. Shame is the emotion that tells us we are not just someone who made a mistake, we are the mistake. And because shame survives by staying hidden, we become experts at keeping it that way. We say 'never mind'. We put on the smile we 'honed for show'. We burn alone in a silent chant of 'I am wrong’, and somehow, that chant starts to feel like the truth. What if, instead of silence, we made some noise about it? This workshop takes a different approach to shame. Rather than talking about it, which can feel exposing before you're ready, we begin in the body. We'll make sound. We'll find our own language for the feeling. We’ll move from a silent chant of 'I am wrong' to the truth, a reclamation: 'I am human'. Using nonsense chanting, creative writing, powerful visual and poetry prompts, this supportive workshop will explore: What shame actually is, and how it differs from guilt Where we learned to hide, and what it cost us How to externalise shame so it stops feeling like your identity How to move from the shame narrative to something truer No writing experience needed.

Talk will take place at Pippbrook House, RH4 1SH This informative and fascinating talk by birding expert, John Lawrence, will introduce around 40 of the birds most commonly seen in and around British gardens, providing insight into ways of identifying different species and about their typical characters. Describing the differences between males, females and youngsters, John will play associated birdsong, teaching the differences between calls, whilst providing enlightening anecdotes about the birds' behaviour. This poetry workshop takes place at Pippbrook House, Reigate Road, Dorking, RH4 1SH Therapeutic poet and trauma therapist (MSc Addiction Psychology & Counselling, MBACP, EFTi), Jacky Power, returns to Pippbrook House with her new "Permission to Feel" workshop series. There is a version of you that existed before you learned to adapt, to only show the parts of yourself that were acceptable. Before someone taught you that your spontaneous, joyful self needed to be quieter. Before you learned that your needs were inconvenient, that the wrong kind of feeling made things difficult for everyone. Beneath beneath, undeterred is you. This workshop uses Transactional Analysis to understand how we learned to separate from our inner child and what we can do to find our way back. Explore the ego states we move between, the injunctions we absorbed without knowing, and the difference between the child who learned to adapt and the child who still knows how to choose joy. Using poetry, accessible theory, and writing to move through four things, in this supportive workshop explore: Understanding why we disconnected from our inner child, and when Identifying the limiting beliefs that we still carry Meeting the free child, the part that was there before the adapting began Letting them finally speak No writing experience needed.
