National Youth Choir (9-15 Years) - Paper Boats

National Youth Choir (9-15 Years) return to Warwick Arts Centre for a characteristically showstopping performance, alongside paper artist Coco Sato. Paper boats begin as simple childhood creations: fragile objects folded from a single sheet. Though delicate, they signify imagination, innocence, hope, and the quiet courage of sending a wish across unknown waters. Paper Boats by Jake Runestad forms the musical centrepiece of the performance, along with music written by Jim Papoulis, Sarah Quartel, Stephen Sondheim and Sara Bareilles. During the performance, you’ll get to see Coco’s paper creations come to life while she folds live on stage - and you’ll even get to join in by making your own paper boat before the show. Through intense scientific experimentation and a lot of nights at the pub, The Mards have synthesised a genre of music that patches together indie bangers with a taste of pop punk to create a sound that reflects their life as young students in Manchester. Forming in late 2018 during their first year of university, each member was able to bring their different background and shared love of music to the table, forming the basis of what would become the band’s sound, with inspiration from mid 2000’s indie bands, such as The Kooks and Arctic Monkeys, as well as pop punk bands like Green Day and Blink 182. After a year of bedroom rehearsals and playing gigs in and out of Manchester, The Mards have finally finished working on their first set of tunes with ‘Is It Better’ available now on all streaming platforms. We invite you to join us on our musical escapade and hope you enjoy the sounds we have to offer.

The band’s contest successes include 16 Brass In Concert Championship titles, 11 times Yorkshire Regional Champions, two English Nationals victories, four British Opens and four times National Champion Brass Band of Great Britain.Noted concert performances include those at the World Cup, BAFTAs, BBC Proms, Eurovision and 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony, together with a wealth of national and international television / radio appearances and professional recordings.
