Croquet on the lawn

The beautiful Cedar Lawn is an ideal spot for a game of croquet. If you fancy giving it a go then head to Visitor Reception to borrow a set. There are smaller mallets available for children. The croquet sets are loaned on a first come first served basis and must be returned when you have finished using them. They are available for loan daily, except on Wednesdays when the local croquet club use the lawn.

Garden games

You may have played chess before, but have you tried giant chess? Join us for some fun in the sun and enjoy a range of garden games suitable for all the family. Challenge each other to a game of croquet on our historic cedar lawn, find the secret spot behind the Stables and try your hand at giant chess, or head down to the Stables Courtyard to find traditional toys and modern favourites. Whilst you’re here, pick up a pre-loved book from our second-hand bookshop, or treat yourself to a coffee or refreshing ice cream from our new coffee pod. *Please note: on Wednesdays between 2:00pm - 4:00pm the croquet set is reserved for the Croquet Club.

This is our social peer support group. Wednesdays 10am – 11.30am at the Parish Hall, with a 10 min Meditation and Relaxation session offered at 9.45am prior to the start. A warm welcome is offered to everyone at this social and inclusive group for all working-aged adults in the Parish. There is an opportunity to join in the wellbeing activities, chosen by the group, or simply come along to enjoy a cuppa, a biscuit and a friendly chat. Activities and themed discussions to aid health and well-being, conversation and shared support, are decided by the group on a quarterly basis – new participants and new ideas always welcome! Choose from a range of child-friendly crafts and bespoke woodwork pieces to make something unique to take home. New for this year, you can learn how to make paper! First, you'll make your very own mould and deckle and then use them to make some beautiful "nature paper" from book pulp and natural materials gathered from the grounds of Montacute House. You could also make your own 'wood spirit' to pop into your garden, or have a go at laser engraving. Prices start at £5 per craft, paper making is £20 per person. Cash and card payments accepted, to be paid to the workshop leader. These sessions are drop-in and first come first served.
