Make a Large Willow Bird Feeder

Enjoy a short course learning about the traditional craft of willow weaving. You'll be creating a beautiful and functional bird feeder to take home and hang in your garden. You'll be guided through the processes of creating a cone shape, weaving in a pattern and turning. No experience is required. This workshop is great for beginners who would like a taste of what willow weaving is like. Your tutor for this course is Suzy Williams of The Coppice Co. In 2018 Suzy won a place on the National Coppicing Apprenticeship Scheme, during which she learned vital skills and knowledge from seasoned coppice workers. Now she manages coppice woodlands alongside teaching and selling traditional woodland crafts. Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work. Saturday 7th March, Friday 24th July and Saturday 14th November, 10am-12noon. Tea/coffee is provided.

Urban Movement Academy

Parkour classes, every Saturday during term time. Urban Movement Academy Founded in 2014, Urban Movement Academy is a movement-based training programme dedicated to helping young people develop confidence, strength, creativity, and physical literacy. We are proud to have been part of the lives of many children and families in our local and surrounding communities over the years. Our sessions combine elements of athletics, gymnastics, and obstacle navigation, encouraging students to move efficiently, creatively, and safely within their environment. We teach participants how to use their bodies to overcome physical challenges such as walls, rails, and obstacles using techniques including running, jumping, vaulting, climbing, rolling, and controlled landings. Alongside this, students are introduced to expressive and acrobatic movements that promote fluidity, coordination, and self-expression. Age Range Urban Movement Academy sessions are suitable for children and young people aged 5–18 years. Urban Movement Academy is a movement-based training programme dedicated to helping young people develop confidence Session Times & Fees Sessions are priced between £8–£12 per week, payable termly in advance. Reduce, Re-use, Repair & Recycle “Last Saturday, at the United Church, 14 repairers examined 31 items brought in by the public, and fixed 21 of them. This ranged from Kenwood chefs, to a Saucepan, to a toaster, to a pair of jeans and garden shears as well as a mobile phone and laptop”. Every time a repair café fixes something, Surrey University estimates we save 24Kg of Co2, mostly through not having to buy more (imported) items. With the 48Kg. of items that were repaired last Saturday in Faringdon, over 1 tonne of Co2 emissions were saved. Their 2017 study of 13 repair cafes attempting 2,800 repairs showed there is very little wrong with half the items we might otherwise throw away. And yet, as a society, we throw away 155,000 tonnes per year of small electrical items alone, the second highest rate in the world. Whilst the UK has reduced home generated carbon emissions by more than 40% since 1990 (which is wonderful), the carbon we generate in other countries (by importing stuff manufactured overseas, and then throwing it away in order to buy more) has only reduced by 16%. We are looking for volunteer repairers, people who can ‘fix stuff’ – clothes, electrical appliances, garden machinery, clocks, furniture, woodwork, computers.
