Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Rufford punches well above its weight for local events, and Lancashire's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Parish council listings, community centre noticeboards, pub websites we've had to zoom in on to read properly — we've checked them all so you don't have to.

Late Night Open Studio Access Fri 17th April from 5pm

This is an evening Open Studio Access which allows you to come and use the pottery workshop facilities to create your own makes.  This can be hand-building projects or on the potters wheel.  You can come for 2 or 4 hours.  This is not a taught session so although our Pottery Teachers will be on hand for support and advice they will not teach one-to-one. If you book for 2 hours please email to let us know what time you will be attending so we can ensure enough room for everyone. From February 2026 we are changing the structure of our Open Access sessions. You must buy your clay from us (the cost includes your clay, glazes and 2 firings). Sessions fees will are being reduced. Please note our Tearoom closes at 5pm and refreshments will not be available during this session.

Join Helen Worthington from Evendawn Arts in this ‘Exploring Watercolour’ Workshop. This is a perfect taster workshop for anyone who’s always wanted to try watercolour painting but have been too nervous to! It’s also great for those with a small amount of experience to practice looser painting styles and build confidence. The aim of this ‘Exploring Watercolours’ class is to have FUN, and to get past the anxiety many people experience when approaching watercolour painting! There is absolutely NO DRAWING involved, so you can simply enjoy playing with the paints, without stressing over the outcome. You’ll explore how to use a basic set of colours and see the way they blend and harmonise on paper, along with using different types of brushes and some more unusual tools to create fascinating effects. There will be a selection of simple and enjoyable exercises, which will offer you a great basis in watercolor painting. You may then want to explore these topics further at later date. This is not the type of class for those with more advanced watercolour skills, or those wishing to learn how to draw/paint landscapes or ‘formal’ types of work. A prayer group who faithfully meet each Monday evening and Thursday morning, to pray together and wait on God.  All are welcome to come and join us! Aim is to: Connect with God. Why do we meet?: We meet because we want to know the Lord, to know Him, to be led by Him and to know His will for our lives and the church. What we do?: We seek the Lord and draw near to Him, in prayer, in praise, in song Psalm 100). We also spend time listening and in His goodness the Lord has drawn near to us. What is praying?: You could say it is two-way communication with God, whether in silence, in song, in speaking and in listening. God is able to communicate with us in a variety of ways. Who is it for?: It is for those who want to know the Lord more, and have a desire for God to transform the area, themselves and those they love. Do I have to pray out loud?: Not if you don't want to, just come as you are. Are there any key bible verses that the Lord has shared?: A couple, or favourites would have to be Hebrews 11:6(b) – Those who comes to God must believe He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Another is Amos 5:4 – Seek me and live [says the Lord]. So do I have to have loads of faith to come along?: Whether you have a lot of faith or a little, come and join us. What have you got to lose? The Prayer Course

Join us on an 8 week journey through the Lord's Prayer, starting on the 18th March.   The course will help you and St John's to grow and deepen your prayer life. This workshop is aimed at intermediate potters who are able to centre and shape 2lb of clay. During this one full day session and a half day session you will be guided on how to throw a teapot with a lid, a sugar bowl with lid, a milk jug and a mug, plus a spoon.  There will be plenty of time to create your pieces, turn them and construct. Once dried and fired you will return on Sunday 24th May 10.30-12.30 to glaze your pieces. All clay and glazes are included.
