From debut Iraqi director Hasan Hadi, The President’s Cake is a beautiful tale of love, friendship and resilience told from the perspective of a child growing up under Saddam Hussein’s oppressive regime. Set during the first Gulf War, Lamia, a young girl from Iraq’s Mesopotamian Marshes, lives with her grandmother Bibi and her pet cockerel Hindi in a community struggling to get by under the harsh conditions of a country suffering under sanctions and at war. But under Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship, nothing will stop his mandatory birthday celebrations, including choosing a child from each school class across the land to bake a cake in his honour. Despite Lamia’s best efforts to avoid it, knowing how difficult it will be to source the ingredients, she is picked among her peers to produce the cake, which she must do, or face the consequences.

Watercolour Pencil & Stitch

Join Victoria from Little House of Victoria in this is a mixed media workshop for which you will receive a beautiful kit to take home with you and to work on in the class. The kit includes beautiful watercolour pencils, a printed panel in a choice of my designs, a set of pure silk perle and stranded threads, written instructions, and of tuition throughout the workshop. This workshop is completely suitable for beginners and for advanced crafters and stitchers alike. We will first colour in the printed panel with the pencils, before adding water and watching the magic happen, this is so therapeutic! We will then explore ways of stitching to enhance the panel, I will provide as much guidance as possible with the stitching, and if you haven’t stitched for a while or ever before, that is absolutely fine. In terms of design, you can follow my examples, or go completely off piste with your own creation, this is very much encouraged. There will be a choice of printed designs, all measuring 24 x 24 cm, printed on organic cotton. We will also discuss uses for your panels, and how to take them into a project following this workshop.

'Peter Puffin" Acrylic Workshop

Join Helen Worthington of Evendawn Arts in this Acrylic ‘Peter Puffin’ Painting workshop. Before starting the project, Helen will explain everything about the paints, brushes and techniques to be used during the session, so this is a perfect opportunity to try acrylic painting if it’s new to you! If you’ve used them before, you’ll be familiar with how versatile and fun they can be! On a sturdy piece of cream mountboard, you will be given a pre-drawn outline of ‘Peter Puffin”, so you don’t need to worry about drawing him. You can then enjoy painting in all the details to create a lovely medium-sized finished picture to keep. Acrylic paints, once dry, are completely permanent! Therefore, please ensure you wear suitable clothing which won’t matter if the paint gets onto it! Please don’t forget to bring something with you to carry your projects home in – a small lidded tray or box will be fine. All levels of experience welcome (Age 12 upwards). Full instructions will be given to everyone during the session. All materials will be provided Here at Eden we have a clear non-refundable & no transfer policy to ensure that we cover our costs and protect the ongoing viability of the workshop. We do appreciate that sometimes unforeseen circumstances may mean that you cant attend a workshop and we are happy for you to send along a friend to take your place, we will need their name and contact details prior to the workshop
