The Marx Reading Group is a monthly space for reading and discussing Capital together. The aim is to make Marx’s writing accessible by working through it slowly, sharing thoughts, questions and ideas as a group. Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to Marx or have read him before. There’s no need for prior knowledge, and all readings are available for free online. Each session focuses on a set section of Capital, with time for open discussion and contributions from everyone who wants to speak. Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle

To celebrate the return of spring, join us at SET Social for the Braiding Sweetgrass Reading Circle, a small reading group exploring Robin Wall Kimmerer’s influential book Braiding Sweetgrass. Meeting every two weeks from 15 March to 24 May, the circle invites participants to read and discuss the book together over tea in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Each session will focus on a different section of the text, beginning with the introduction at the first meeting. Drawing on her life as an Indigenous scientist, a mother and a woman, Kimmerer explores how other living beings such as plants, animals and ecosystems offer lessons about reciprocity, care and responsibility. Through stories that move between ecology, science and Indigenous knowledge, the book explores our relationship with the earth and the importance of living in respectful kinship with the more-than-human world. The reading circle will be a space to discuss these ideas together and reflect on how they might influence our daily lives. If gardeners attend, the group may also explore ways to connect some of the book’s teachings with the SET Social Community Garden. Open to anyone interested in nature, gardening or anti-colonial perspectives on our relationship with the land.

SET 91 Open Series – A PATCH Sunday Salon

SET 91 continues the Open Series with A PATCH Sunday Salon, an exhibition and live programme led by PATCH, an interdisciplinary collective working across architecture, art and research. Bringing together works by the collective and its members, the exhibition explores diasporic experiences of the city and considers how architecture can be understood through alternative, community-led lenses. The exhibition presents a retrospective of PATCH’s past projects alongside new work currently in development by the collective’s founders. Through sculpture, photography, publications and painting, the programme reflects on themes that have shaped PATCH’s practice to date, from food and the act of holding space to the evolving notion of home. Alongside the exhibition, the programme will include a live talk and Q&A reflecting on some of PATCH’s past projects, as well as a conversational salon returning to themes of home and holding space, asking how diasporic communities can be centred within fast-paced metropolitan environments in ways that are tangible, supportive and meaningful. Why this matters In the context of ongoing gentrification, displacement and urban redevelopment, particularly in London, diasporic and marginalised communities are often disproportionately affected.

Whether you are a seasoned traveller or a total beginner looking to step foot into a world of mischiefs and mysteries, all are welcome to come along and spin your very own tales at Ravenswood Bluff with our talented Storytellers. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. with a 30 minutes introduction/beginners’ guide, where our Storytellers gives a brief introduction and explanation to players that are new to Blood on the Clocktower before the game starts. The game officially starts at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a food break at 7:00-7:30 p.m. *Please note that if we don’t meet the minimum player threshold, this event will be cancelled, and your ticket will be either refunded or moved to our next event. What is Blood on the Clocktower? Blood on the Clocktower is a game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception for five-to-twenty courageous players and one devious storyteller. A social game played in person, seated in a circle, each player receives either a ‘good’ or ‘evil’ token with their unique character on it. Good players share information to solve the mystery whilst evil players lie about who they are and what they know. The good team wins if they can piece together their knowledge, trust each other, and execute the demon. The evil team wins if the demon can sow distrust, evade detection, and wipe out the village.
