What's on in Mistley Heath

Essex, England

Mistley Heath sits quietly in Essex, a place where the pace of life is set by the rhythm of the train and the changing of the seasons rather than a frantic calendar. With no big venues to shout about, the local scene relies on community groups gathering in halls or neighbours hosting garden parties that turn into proper neighbourhood festivals. It is the sort of spot where you know exactly who lives down the road and what's playing at the next village hall without needing to scroll through a dozen screens. There isn't a single headline attraction here, but that means every event feels personal and unmissable. People meet up for local markets or casual get-togethers that happen naturally around the parish centre. It is a friendly corner of Essex where the best things are usually free, close by, and shared with people you might already know from the bus stop.

Haunting Nights

Join Haunting Nights on The Witch Finder General Ghost Hunt here in Manningtree! Haunting Nights Bring you closer to the story than ever before of the Essex Witch Trials It has been reported many times that the ghost of Matthew Hopkins, the self-proclaimed Witchfinder General, can been seen, especially on nights of a full moon. The ghostly apparition is seen dressed in 17th century clothing close to Mistley ‘ducking’ Pond and the nearby ‘hopping’ bridge not far from St. Marys Church, Mistley. Other reports claim that the ghost of his first victim, the elderly and crippled Elizabeth Clarke appears on the shores of Seafield Bay. Elizabeth was dragged out of The Red Lion public house by Matthew Hopkins as he loudly accused her of being a witch, following a previous accusation by the local tailor John Rivet. Elizabeth was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. This conviction convinced Hopkins that he was right to accuse her so he proclaimed himself “The Witchfinder General” Join the team as they  investigate the hauntings of Matthew Hopkins Witch Finder General.
