What's on in Roedale, Lower

East Sussex, England

Lower Roedale sits tucked away in East Sussex where the hills are steep enough to make a hill-walker pause for breath. With no big venues on the doorsteps, the local scene relies entirely on community spirit and the odd pop-up gathering near the village green. It is a quiet place that knows how to keep its own counsel without needing a shout to be heard. The calendar fills up with seasonal markets and family days that bring neighbours together for tea and chat. Even when the official listings are bare, there is usually a neighbourly get-together happening somewhere down the lane. Near Here keeps an eye on what's coming so you can plan your Sunday stroll with confidence.

Triratna Day Festival
Community

Triratna Day Festival

In April 1967 Urgyen Sangharakshita founded what has become the Triratna Buddhist Community. Today we are a contemporary international Buddhist movement, firmly established in traditional yet hugely relevant Buddhist Teaching. Now more than ever practising the Buddha’s teachings on Compassion and Wisdom seem compelling, even urgent. Join us as we celebrate the founding of our Buddhist movement. Our day will focus on Practice for Peace in our World. We will include periods of meditation, ritual and reflection. There will also be space to practise gratitude that we have inherited an effective context in which we can make a difference. Join Maitridarshin, Akasati, Sthanashrada, Shuddhadhara and the Team for all or part of the day. The Day’s Programme: 10.30am Doors open 11am  to 1.00pm – a morning of meditation, reflection and discussion, including a talk from Akasati: WORLD GONE MAD: What can Buddhists offer? How relevant is Buddhist practice, in the midst of global chaos? Can cultivating  awareness and ethics have a ripple effect on the world? Taking in Buddhist teachings and contemporary thinkers, Akasati explores what Triratna Buddhists have to offer. 1pm A festival lunch – please bring vegetarian / vegan food to share together (labelled please). 2.15pm to 4pm – an afternoon of ritual, devotion and puja All welcome, no need to book, by donation
