Upper Borth sits quiet and content on the Dyfed coast, where the sea breeze keeps the mood light all through the year. There are no big venues to shout about, but the local community halls and charity shops often host the kind of warm gatherings that make a seaside town feel like home. When the sun goes down, you can find folk music sessions or a simple café catch-up without needing to scroll through a dozen screens. It is a place where the pace slows down just enough for you to enjoy the view while keeping up with what's going on nearby.

Attention! New Sewing Group Tuesday Evenings

The Sewing Group now meet on a Tuesday evening between 7-8pm in an upstairs room and anyone is welcome to join in, whatever their project. Tea/coffee and biscuits available halfway through and cost is £4 a week. This may be reduced as the group grows.

@ No.1 ‘Tal-y-llyn’ at Nant Gwernol, A blend of a 2020s photo with an 1870s photo – Luke Ryan & Talyllyn Collection The Talyllyn Railway is unique in that both original locomotives and all the passenger carriages that were built for the opening of the Railway in the mid-1860s survive to this day and are still in regular use, so let us invite you to step back in time to the Era of Queen Victoria and travel through untouched and unparalleled Snowdonian scenery aboard The Victorian Train. From left to Right: No.1 ‘Tal-y-llyn’, built in 1864, and No.2 ‘Dolgoch’, built in 1866, posed for a photograph at Pendre c.1903 – Talyllyn Collection The train will be hauled by No.1 ‘Tal-y-llyn’ or No.2 ‘Dolgoch’, two of the oldest working steam locomotives in the World.The Victorian Train departs Tywyn Wharf Station at 11am and at 2:10pm.Along the way there will be a stop at Dolgoch Station where you can alight from the train and watch the engine take water from the original slate water column, fed straight from the impressive Dolgoch Falls. ‘Wagons on the P/Way’ – Photo CharTRs

@ The Preservation Pioneers had a hard task ahead of them relaying the Railway in the early 1950s – and even the best volunteers need a hand from time to time.We invite you to join us for a photographic day with No.2 ‘Dolgoch’ at the head of an era-appropriate 1950s Permanent Way train, complete with loaded wagons and re-enactors! The day will begin at 7:30am at Tywyn Wharf Station, with the train departing at 8:00am. No.2 ‘Dolgoch’ with a collection of assorted wagons – Alan Chorlton/Talyllyn Collection The Talyllyn Railway was in a sorry state when the Preservation Society took over operations in 1951, with the saying “Don’t disturb the turf around the Rails” being used predominantly – as it was the only thing keeping the tack to gauge!It was apparent a full re-lay of the line was in order, so the pioneering volunteers took to the task. Frequent permanent way trains were run, formed of the rotting wagons at the TRs disposal – predominantly of the iron bodied types. In 1953 salvation came in the form of the Territorial Army who, on a training exercise, assisted the volunteers with the track renewal work. The Territorial Army at work on Dolgoch Viaduct – Talyllyn Collection The Territorial Army enjoyed multiple visits to the TR on training exercises following this, even rebuilding part of Dolgoch Viaduct.

We are proud to announce a celebration express train, The Cambrian Coast Express from Birmingham to the Talyllyn Railway at Tywyn, on the Cambrian Coast to celebrate this preservation milestone featuring: Double-headed Class 37 English Electric Diesel locomotives Double-headed Talyllyn Railway special train with both original locomotives: No. 1 Talyllyn and No. 2 Dolgoch – when booking, check the box to add tickets for this to your booking Our English Electric Type 3 diesel 37240 will haul our train from Widney Manor From Shrewsbury to Pwllheli (and return) our train will be hauled by one of Network Rail’s class 97 English Electric Type 3 diesels double heading with our own 37240, calling at Tywyn for the Talyllyn Railway. The excellent Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Tywyn Wharf will be open for passengers The Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society was formed in Birmingham in October 1950 and ran the World’s first volunteer run train service in May 1951.
