Combine your visit to Lyme Regis Museum with a Town History Walk by one of our knowledgeable Museum Guides. Redeem your entry ticket anytime from 10am in the Museum. Meet outside the Museum for the Walk. TOWN HISTORY WALK – Fred’s guided walk blends snippets of its colourful historic past, interposed with illustrated views of how much Lyme has been, and continues to be used for Film & Television productions (at least 20) over the years, and some examples of how film makers used Lyme to represent times both in Lyme’s history, fact & fiction, and sometimes somewhere else entirely. The walk lasts about 90 minutes and includes photographs of the ‘before and after’, and some stills of the films themselves. The tour avoids most of Lyme’s challenging inclines. Please meet outside the Museum 5 minutes before the Walk. Museum Admission & Walk included in ticket price. Writing Day inspired by John Fowles

Lyme Stories: Writing Day inspired by John Fowles April 18th 2026, 10am-3pm Join writer Sarah Acton for an experimental day of writing inspired by place and time, drawing on the stories of Lyme Regis Museum, the town’s rich history and the work of author and former Museum curator John Fowles. During the workshop, participants will explore ideas of place writing through the lens of Fowles’ fiction and non-fiction, alongside the work of artists such as Laurence Whistler and Faye Godwin. The session will consider themes of landscape, myth, the natural elements and the passage of time, all of which feature strongly in Fowles’ work and the history of Lyme Regis. All materials are provided. The workshop will take place both indoors and outdoors, with time spent exploring the surrounding environment encouraged (but optional). Refreshments will be available throughout the day, and there will be a lunch break from 12.00–12.45pm (please bring a packed lunch). Talk: 'Sea Monsters Past and Present' by Darren Naish

‘Sea Monsters Past and Present’ An illustrated Talk by Darren Naish 12th June, 3pm, The Pine Hall (Baptist Church), Lyme Regis Ever since ancient times, people have believed that giant, monstrous animals inhabit the seas. If such creatures are real, could they have a direct relationship to the giant sea reptiles – in particular the long-necked plesiosaurs – of the geological past? Join esteemed author and palaeozoologist Dr Darren Naish as he explores our developing ideas about sea monsters past and present, a subject that combines developments in palaeontology with studies of mythology and popular culture. Dr Darren Naish is an author and palaeozoologist affiliated with the University of Southampton. His technical studies involve dinosaurs, the flying pterosaurs and ancient sea reptiles. He has published many books, the most recent including Dinopedia, Ancient Sea Reptiles and Mesozoic Art II. Dr Naish is also chief scientific consultant for the Apple TV / BBC Studios series Prehistoric Planet. This talk is a Fossil Festival special.
