Findern sits quietly in Derbyshire where the village hall often hosts a bit of noise and laughter. The Findern Village Hall usually manages to keep things lively without needing a single word of hype from us. It is quite remarkable how much fun can happen in such a peaceful corner of the country. We have seen everything from local bands to community gatherings take centre stage there recently. You never know what will be on the programme until you drop by and check the notice board. That is the charm of small places where neighbours actually know each other's names.

In this talk Dr Paul Whickman (University of Derby) explores how writers such as William and Dorothy Wordsworth, Mary and Percy Shelley, and Lord Byron responded to Derbyshire, reflecting on the role the county played in their respective imaginative and creative processes.
