Eric Johnson

One of the most outstanding instrumentalists in rock over the past 40 years, Texas guitarist Eric Johnson was already a legend before he recorded his first album. By the early 1980s, many celebrated guitarists were singing the praises of this skinny kid from Austin with the mind-melting chops. Comparisons were made to such guitar heroes as Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix and when he joined the ‘70s Austin fusion band Electromagnets they were being hailed as “the Mahavishnu Orchestra of Texas”. With the release of his highly-anticipated 1986 solo debut album Tones, the underground guitar legend finally emerged onto the scene fully-formed. It landed him on the cover of Guitar Player magazine, which hailed the album as a “majestic debut”, and earned him his first Grammy nomination for the song “Zap”. With the release of his follow up album, 1990’s platinum-selling Ah Via Musicom, which contained the Grammy Award winning song “Cliffs of Dover”, Eric Johnson became a bona fide international guitar phenomenon. The New Age Music Guide once opined that “Eric Johnson plays guitar the way Michelangelo painted ceilings: with a colorful vibrancy that’s more real than life” while Rolling Stone included him in their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of the 21st century.

Wheal Treasure Stitch Club - 1st Tuesday Monthly

Welcome to one of our many Cornish Craft Barn Stitch Groups. We run several regular groups that meet once a month. If you’re interested in joining one everyone is welcome! All levels of skill and project are welcome. This is an all-day session where you can work on quilting projects on machines or by hand with other quilters who are looking to share ideas and experience and can provide guidance for each other – plus lots of lovely chat, cake and coffee! It is not a ‘tutored’ session but a room filled with abundant expertise from which to seek assistance. We can offer short demonstrations or mini projects from time to time if this is something the group decides they want! The session runs from 10am – 4pm but feel free to attend as much of this as you can to fit in with your other commitments. Lunch can be bought from the cafe with a 10% discount. Plenty of parking outside and we can give you a hand to get your machines upstairs to the training room if needed. We have several new Janome quilting sewing machines available to borrow for the day if you need one or find it easier than bringing one in from home. Please book ahead or let us know if you need one so we make sure we have enough available. We ask for payment quarterly in advance £17.50 per session, so £52.50 which covers three sessions for you. If you can’t make a session you can use a credit up on any of the other Wheal monthly groups we run, or carry one session over in any 6 month period.

Wet Felted Seascape Picture

What You’ll Learn Create your very own unique seascape picture from wool This workshop will give you an introduction to the exciting and colourful world of felting. Wet felting is a technique that uses soap and water to bind the wool fibres together. I will take you through the process of creating your very own felted seascape picture (9×7 inches approx.) inspired by the Cornish coast to take home. You will learn how to lay out the wool fibres to create the base layer. After choosing the colours, I will introduce you to different ways of using wool to create different effects. Other fibres such as sari silk threads can be added at this stage. You will then be taken through the felting process using water and soap. Finally, the piece is rolled until fully felted. All materials will be provided Olive soap is used in the workshop, but you may bring your own soap if required. Also please bring protective gloves if handling wool is an issue. You will need to bring 2 towels (1 medium and 1 small) and a bag to take your work home as it will need drying at home.
