What's on in Brillwater

Cornwall, England

Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Brillwater punches well above its weight for local events, and Cornwall's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Parish council listings, community centre noticeboards, pub websites we've had to zoom in on to read properly — we've checked them all so you don't have to.

Your Story, Your Art

A new creative programme for teens Led by Open The Box Arts (11+) Monday 6pm-8pm Your Story, Your Art! A creative programme for teens aimed at bring young people together to amplify their voices and tell their stories about our town. Over three months, we’re bringing together a crew of young people from across Helston to co-create a workshop programme that you shape and lead. Think zine-making, storytelling, art, writing, and more — using professional materials, working with brilliant artists, and making something real together. The programme will end with a sharing and exhibition at The Basement on Saturday 13 June. No pressure. No auditions. Just good people, good creative work, and a place where you belong For Parents and Carers The Basement is a neutral, welcoming space in Helston town centre — not attached to any school or existing group — where young people aged 11–18 can meet, create, and build new friendships. This pilot project uses high-quality creative workshops to support confidence, wellbeing, and self-expression. Young people aren’t just participants — they help shape the programme itself, giving them a genuine voice and a real sense of ownership. Led by professional artists and makers, workshops are inclusive, safe, and designed to bring together young people from different backgrounds around shared creative goals. This group will meet on a mixture of Saturday mornings and Monday evenings. This is a pilot project.

Growbaby

At Growbaby we provide good quality, new and second-hand, baby clothes (up to 5 years), toys and equipment, completely free of charge, to anyone who needs it. There is no need to be referred to Growbaby, everyone is welcome, regardless of income, background or faith. Simply come along and chat to one of the Growbaby team who can help you choose any clothes and equipment from our storeroom that you might need. This term we are trialling a new system where we limit storeroom visits to once a term (exceptions for emergency need for nappies, shoes, coats etc). This is to try and make sure everyone who needs to access our storeroom has the chance to do so, and to make sure we can give everyone the time they need. Ideally, if you can email us before the session to ask for a slot in the storeroom and let us know what you need, that helps us to manage our time, but don't worry if you can't! Alongside our storeroom we run a fun and friendly playgroup for 0-4 year olds and their parents/carers. Our sessions involve free play 10- 10.45, snacks and then we always end with music/song time. We provide healthy snacks for little people and delicious homemade cake and coffee/tea for grown ups. Please do stay for this, we would love to get to know you. Parking is limited in Islington Wharf, so we recommend finding nearby street parking if possible. If you do park in Islington Wharf, please make sure you get a free parking permit from us as soon as you arrive to avoid a parking ticket.
