4A Cambridge Folk Festival event in partnership with Folk by the Oak Festival.Lend your voice to the brand-new Spell Songs Scratch Choir!Inspired by the music of Spell Songs and in anticipation of their performance at Cambridge Corn Exchange, we invite you to raise your voices to celebrate nature. We will be learning a beautiful new acappella arrangement of ‘The Lost Words Blessing’ - a deeply moving song now in glorious four-part harmony. We will also be weaving our voices around a new ‘murmuration’ - bringing to life a meaningful mantra from Jackie Morris and Rober Macfarlane’s latest release ‘The Book of Birds’ which inspired Spell Songs’ new album. The Spell Songs Scratch Choir is also invited to sing in a ‘pop-up’ performance at Cambridge Corn Exchange at 7.10pm, just before the Spell Songs concert on Friday 4th September.The workshop and performance will be led by singer and choir leader Ben See. This project is open to all singers. You don’t need to be able to read music or sing a solo, but a little bit of experience singing in a choir or holding harmony parts is recommended. Scores and teaching tracks will be sent round in advance.
5A unique evening of poetry from some of the UK’s finest performers, blending poignant and comedic styles.Opening the night, Toria Garbutt and Mike Garry present A War of the Roses of their poems, including a segment first created for the Remembering Johnny Green event at Cadogan Hall. “Greeny” was The Clash’s legendary road manager and later John Cooper Clarke’s “Gentleman Companion” on tour. This special performance will pay tribute to him with new work debuting here.Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires close the first half with music from the acclaimed album Sounds Made by Humans, pairing Bilston’s poetry with melodies by Heavenly’s Amelia Fletcher and Rob Pursey, performed live by a full band.After the interval, Jan Brierton joins BAFTA-winning poet Henry Normal, the Bard of Nottingham, for a special double act as they tour the UK and Ireland together.Closing the show is the country’s best-loved live poet, Dr John Cooper Clarke, performing classics including Evidently Chickentown, Beasley Street and I Wanna Be Yours, alongside new material from his forthcoming collection Ave It. This is his only East Anglian show of 2026 and a preview of his record sixth sell-out appearance at the London Palladium.

Enjoy live entertainment from Louis Bibbins singing summer classics, alongside a BBQ, summer refreshments, circus-themed games, stalls, a tombola and plenty of fun throughout the afternoon. Guests will also have the opportunity to take a personal tour of the home and discover what life is like at Southampton Manor.
