A Pint Of Porter: The Cole Porter Songbook

Cole Porter penned some of the most iconic tunes in the 'Great American Songbook', many of which took on a second life as vehicles for jazz improvisation loved by greats like Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker and Oscar Peterson, all of whom recorded entire albums of his songs. Join us as we play a selection of his compositions and celebrate his accomplishments. Following on from the band's previous sell out shows at the Vortex featuring the music of Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Thelonious Monk, they return to present a celebration of another of the all time jazz greats. Expect some well known favourites and a few less commonly played tunes as we spend an evening with one of the esteemed figures of 20th century music.

Since releasing her debut album, The Whole Damn Plan 2024, with The Olivia Cuttill Quintet, Olivia has toured the UK playing esteemed venues such as Ronnie Scotts, Howard Assembly Room and South Bank Centre. Olivia also plays in Jazz FM Innovator of the year nominee ‘Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band’ and with Northern Line 2024 winner Tom Harris. Olivia’s second album, ‘…And Writing And Singing And Tunes To Be Swingin’ was chosen as Jazz FM’s album of the week, was played live on BBC 3 and featured in Jazz Wise magazine and more. The release was celebrated with a 10 date European tour. As the third generation to pursue music in her family , jazz and blues are deeply rooted in Olivia’s heritage. Heavily influenced by the sounds of New Orleans, inspired by Louis Armstrong and Dr John and the song writing of Nina Simone and Randy Newman, her sound is rich with soul. Olivia’s approach to composition story telling and improvisation seamlessly bleed into one, gleaming with conviction, character and captivation.
