Following multiple Sell Out runs in 2023,2024,2025 and two SELL OUT performances at Glasgow's iconic Pavilion Theatre, UP A CLOSE is coming to the fabulous ROTHES HALLS THEATRE, GLENROTHES on THURSDAY 27TH AUGUST 2026 for a Matinee and Evening performance. The story of Joanna recounting her life in a Glasgow tenement flat, has brought joy, laughter and tears to Scottish audiences. UP A CLOSE tells the story of Joanna reflecting on her life in her Partick tenement flat when her husband doesn't come home one night. As she reminisces about her tough marriage, her children and growing up in the 1970s,the audience is taken on a journey through family, friendship and the ups and downs of working class Glasgow life. From childhood mischief with her best friend Anne Marie to schooldays under the watchful eye of the nuns and dancing up the toon to the Bay City Rollers, Joanna's story is filled with laughter, poignancy and pure Glasgow banter.

The Happy Lands: Screening + Q&a With Cast And Crew

Art27 Scotland and UNISON Fife are proud to present The Happy Lands: General Strike Centenary Programme 2026, a series of three specially curated screenings commemorating 100 years since the UK General Strike of 1926. Set in the heart of Fife’s mining communities, this powerful, community-made film brings to life the resilience, solidarity and everyday struggles of the families involved in one of Britain’s most significant industrial disputes. Join us for the final event in the programme: an afternoon screening of The Happy Lands (2012), followed by a Q&A with the film’s cast and crew. The discussion will explore themes of community empowerment, grassroots storytelling, and the continued relevance of these histories today. Looking to the future, it will also consider how the lessons of 1926 can inform collective action in the face of ongoing social and economic inequality. This event is funded and supported by UNISON Fife Health Branch and OnFife. Curated and organised by Art27 Scotland in collaboration with Caireen Stuart. Warnings: Film contains stong language and moderate violence.

Bringing together world leading economists, academics, and thought leaders as we celebrate 250 Years of Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations. The day will feature a distinguished panel discussion, Adam Smith guided heritage tours, interactive masterclasses, and an inspiring conversation with the Governor of the Bank of England in the main auditorium. The highlight of the symposium will be The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey in conversation with Ed Balls and Stephanie Flanders. International Economics Nobel Prize winners will also be joining them on stage to discuss the future of the global economy.
