Sometimes ‘real life’ gets in the way of your creative practice. Sometimes your writing feels stuck, and you don’t know how to move it on. Sometimes you know you want to write, but don’t know what to write… Join award-winning author Elise Valmorbida with experienced coach and facilitator Richard Beecham for a week of support and inspiration. You’ll take your writing into new territory with exercises that will get you thinking in different ways. Your tutors will help you to explore your material, create compelling stories and develop your writing voice. You’ll learn coaching techniques too. They’ll help you make time for your writing, get you through the sticky bits, and leave you feeling confident about your project and your ability to see it through. Suitable for writers at all stages of their journey, writing in any genre, this course offers one-to-one sessions, group workshops and plenty of informal wisdom in between. You’ll leave with fresh insights and new tools to fuel your writing—even when you get back to ‘real life’! Learn how to conjure compelling plots, a vivid sense of place, and stories with emotional impact. Freya and Matt will reveal the craft behind their many successful novels and help you structure and edit your own work. During the week’s workshops, writing exercises and one-to-one tutorials, they will teach you how to access your unique writer’s voice – and explain what action to take when words don’t flow. Freya, who presents the popular ‘Wednesday Writers’ discussion series on Instagram Live, will help you access your natural creativity, explaining that there’s no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to write. And Matt will draw on his background as an award-winning journalist to teach you how to pitch your work effectively, as well as making suggestions for how to prepare for – and learn from – any criticism or rejection writers may experience along the way. You’ll also enjoy an evening with bestselling author Clare Pooley, as she reads from her work and shares insights in a Q&A on Wednesday. Poetry Writing Course with The Poetry Business

In partnership with The Poetry Business, this intensive and enjoyable week draws on inspirational contemporary poems, carefully chosen to help develop and deepen your writing practice. Described by The Guardian as 'the best poetry teachers in the world,' Peter Sansom and Ann Sansom offer a unique opportunity to write, read, and reflect in a supportive environment. While the emphasis will be on generating new work, the week will also include a supportive critical workshop, alongside optional small group discussions. Ahead of the course, you’ll be invited to complete a short reading and writing task to get started. In place of traditional tutor and guest readings, the evenings will feature The World Poetry Festival, where everyone is invited to share a short reading from a favourite poet. There will also be a range of optional activities, including the much-loved Secret Poem game, short torchlit poetry walks, and time to relax and connect over tea, wine, or Baileys. Places are limited. To apply, please email a short paragraph outlining why you’d like to take part, along with a brief biographical note and three poems (published or otherwise). Ann and Peter are not looking for the ‘best’ or ‘most advanced’ poets but people they think would get most out of the week – and who would enjoy being part of a focused and serious but relaxed group.
