Speaker Series ~ In Pursuit of the Improbable

Speak Series: In Pursuit of the Improbable with Stephen Powles Join award‑winning wildlife photographer and conservationist Stephen Powles for a lively and insightful journey into the natural world. In this talk, Stephen shares a medley of amusing, surprising and deeply informative wildlife stories, revealing how patience, curiosity and an understanding of animal behaviour helped him capture some of his most challenging photographs and film sequences. Expect encounters with pine martens, a remarkably “smart” mouse, hornets, tawny owls, and other elusive species — each with its own improbable tale. A former vet, Stephen changed career to pursue his lifelong passion for wildlife, photography and conservation. His work has appeared on television, in the national press and has earned major awards. Much of his photography focuses on the fascinating wildlife found in and around his Devon home. A video introduction to this event can be viewed HERE . Tickets are priced at £10 + booking fee and there are a limited number of tickets available - book yours now using the THIS LINK TO OUR BOOKING SYSTEM! Doors will open at 7.00 pm for a 7.30 pm start. You will be guided through creating mass, texture, and you’ll learn how to sculpt sustainable willow into a swift form. What’s Included? Within the workshop, you receive everything you need to weave your butterfly. ~ Quality willow materials, carefully selected for weaving. ~ All the necessary tools and accessories for the workshop. ~ Lunch, tea & coffee included. ~ Expert guidance from our course leader, Vik, who will ensure your butterfly comes to life. ~ A unique opportunity to learn about the tradition and techniques of willow weaving. Meet Vik Willow and Wire Sculpture Victoria Westaway, or Vik, as she’s more commonly known, hails from South Somerset. She began her creative journey as a theatre designer and maker, using a willow framework for carnivalesque costumes.
