Join us for an exciting evening with award winning author JD Kirk, the creator of the wonderful DCI Jack Logan, Robert Hoon and DI Heather Filson series of crime books. JD Kirk is a Scottish crime fiction author who has written and published over twenty novels in the DCI Jack Logan series and has gone on to sell more than five million copies of his books. He has also, through the course of his writing career, murdered approximately fifty fictional highlanders, much to the delight of his worldwide fans who particularly love his twisting plots, gruesome deaths and laugh-out-loud humour! He will be joining us on Monday 27th July at 7pm at Duloch library to discuss his books, including his latest release, and writing process. Audience 16 plus, doors opening 6.45pm for 7pm start.

The Happy Lands: Screening + Q&a With Cast And Crew

Art27 Scotland and UNISON Fife are proud to present The Happy Lands: General Strike Centenary Programme 2026, a series of three specially curated screenings commemorating 100 years since the UK General Strike of 1926. Set in the heart of Fife’s mining communities, this powerful, community-made film brings to life the resilience, solidarity and everyday struggles of the families involved in one of Britain’s most significant industrial disputes. Join us for the final event in the programme: an afternoon screening of The Happy Lands (2012), followed by a Q&A with the film’s cast and crew. The discussion will explore themes of community empowerment, grassroots storytelling, and the continued relevance of these histories today. Looking to the future, it will also consider how the lessons of 1926 can inform collective action in the face of ongoing social and economic inequality. This event is funded and supported by UNISON Fife Health Branch and OnFife. Curated and organised by Art27 Scotland in collaboration with Caireen Stuart. Warnings: Film contains stong language and moderate violence.

The day will feature a distinguished panel discussion, Adam Smith guided heritage tours, interactive masterclasses, and an inspiring conversation with the Governor of the Bank of England in the main auditorium. The highlight of the symposium will be The Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey in conversation with Ed Balls and Stephanie Flanders.
