We are looking forward to hosting our fifth repair cafe! Do you have something that’s broken that you don’t know how to fix but can’t bring yourself to throw away? Something like a toaster, kettle, lamp, bag, pair of jeans, jumper or computer? You can book in and bring it along to the Repair Cafe being held on Saturday 21st November from 1pm to 4pm at Gamlingay Eco Hub. Our team of volunteer repairers are helping for free and there is no charge for admission. We welcome donations to cover our costs and to help us grow our network and foster a culture of repair. They will pinpoint the problem and try to fix it there and then for you, or let you know what spare parts to get for when you come back next time. We've had jackets, dresses and trousers sewn, bags mended, jewellery boxes repaired, record players and radios fixed, ornaments glued and even lawn mowers and ironing boards. Repair Cafes are a great way to save money - with households spending about £35 a week on items that can be repaired at repair cafes including clothes, furniture, computers, electrical items. They are also great at reducing waste and emissions by extending the life of items. The average Repair Cafe saves 450kg CO2, about the same as driving from Lands End to John O’Groats and back again. Over the last four Repair Cafe’s Gamlingay has saved an amazing total of 2340kg of Co2. Plus we have saved 269kg of items from going to waste.

Coton Repair Cafe

Skilled volunteers will help you fix a broken item at the Coton Repair Cafe! We can take a wide variety of repairs to small household and garden appliances, whether mechanical, electrical or electronic, along with repairs to bicycles, jewellery, clothing, textiles and ceramics. We like to show you how we repair your item, so that you might be able to do a repair yourself next time.Even if you don't have anything to repair, please come along and buy a tea and a slice of cake - it's a social event as well as a useful repair shop! At 3pm, there will be a 30-minute bike maintenance demonstration, providing practical tips and guidance to help keep bicycles in good working order.Repairs are free, but donations are welcome. Money raised will be given to the Cambridge Carbon Footprint (CCF) charity that enables these cafes to happen. CCF promotes the repair cafes around Cambridgeshire, and have provided us with some experienced repairers to mentor our own Coton repairers, provided insurance (by Wessex Insurance), tool kit hire and much more for the cafe to go ahead. We open for bookings on the 1st May. Booking link: https://forms.gle/chBn28LG37c1jwzs5Please book one item per person (you may bring in a second and if time permits we may be able to take a look). We shall leave some slots open for drop in repairs. So if you haven't booked your repair, do bring an item along anyway, and we can try and get it repaired for you.
