About this event

A form of relief printmaking, a Woodcut image is created when the side grain of a piece of wood is cut away leaving the remaining raised areas to be inked and printed. The marks are less detailed than wood engraving, with the character of the wood often a visible part of the final image. On this introductory course, learn how to plan, cut and print an image from a 115 x 150 mm piece of Japanese plywood. Print onto traditional and contemporary papers, using hand burnishing and a relief press. • Explanation of woodcut printing and looking at examples • Introduction to equipment and cutting techniques • Plan your image and cut the design • Use of rollers and how to ink up your block • Create additional colours using masking and over-printing Pre course information Bring an image to inspire your print, suitable for a 115 x 150 mm piece of wood. Experience level Suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh their skills. Maximum 8 places
