Jonathan Gee, the acclaimed singer and pianist, will deliver a dynamic blend of blues and contemporary jazz at The PizzaExpress Live. Audiences can look forward to interpretations of musical legends like Ellington, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, and Tom Waits, alongside Jonathan’s own original compositions. Renowned for his Harlem stride piano inspired by Thelonious Monk, Jonathan has performed with jazz greats such as Pharoah Sanders and Benny Golson, and has led his celebrated trio. His vocal talent, developed through collaborations with leading artists, highlights his versatility. Having performed internationally and featured on BBC’s In Tune and Loose Ends, Jonathan Gee offers an unforgettable evening of world-class jazz. Don’t miss your chance to see one of the UK’s top jazz talents live! His latest release on ASC, The Lions Revisited, is a vocal album that has garnered praise from Jazz Views, which described it as “a wonderful album to sit and relax to, with maybe a cognac or two, and luxuriate in the playing and singing of Gee, who has created an intimate and absorbing album.” Two of the tracks feature original music and lyrics by Jonathan, alongside collaborations with both Kate Westbrook—chief collaborator with the legendary Mike Westbrook—and noted playwright Alan Franks. The album also includes a complete reworking of Miles Davis’ Boplicity, Paul McCartney’s Blackbird, and features Jonathan singing in Portuguese on Jobim’s Waters of March.
