Holiday Family Printmaking Day – Reduction printing & Drypoint

An opportunity for the whole family to spend a fun day together exploring printmaking in a professional studio. Learn drypoint etching – how to use the different tools to make your image, how to apply ink and how to print using a press. Add Chine collé for colour and new shapes. Bring a drawing or photo (approx. A5) to trace draw for your print. Using polystyrene tiles, print by hand to create a multi coloured layered reduction print – a technique you can repeat at home. Bring an A5 2 or 3 coloured image to use for inspirations. Adults and children work together learning printmaking skills, print individually and collaboratively. Go home with lots of original prints, and maybe discover a hidden talent for printmaking! Course structure • Explanation of the technique and looking at examples. • Introduction to the tools and equipment. • Demonstrations of how to scratch a drypoint acetate. • Making your printing plates. • How to use scrim to ink up your drypoint plate. • How to print with the presses. • Demonstration of reduction printing with polystyrene tiles • Print by hand with your polystyrene sheet to build up a multi layered image • Take home your work as a memory of the day together. • Suitable for all abilities aged from 8 years. • Bring a picnic lunch.
