Thursday 13th August at 12 noon Ever wondered when Worthing became a holiday resort, and not just a fishing village by the sea? What was a ‘sea cure’ and what was considered ‘indecent bathing’. Local historian Chris Hare joins us to tell of the origin of the seaside holiday in the Georgian period, the sometimes strange or surprising reasons for its popularity and the history through time to the present day. The talk will begin at 12 noon and will be followed by a two-course lunch, all for £28.50 Book your place and your chosen meal by contacting reception: Menu Grilled fillet of bream Fresh herb and lemon butter, roasted courgettes, cherry tomatoes and sautéed new potatoes Chargrilled chicken Marinaded in fresh herb pesto, roasted peppers, Romaine lettuce, herb dressing, fries Roasted butternut and potato gnocchi Fresh sage butter and toasted nuts Dessert Knickerbocker glory Fresh raspberry and almond tart Mint chocolate sauce Mature cheddar and brie Homemade chutney and biscuits Seating will be social unless otherwise requested. Full refund if cancelled by 5th August 2026 Please advise of any dietary requirements when booking. Call reception on to book.
