This hands-on one-day course explores some of the earliest technologies developed by hunter-gatherer cultures, skills that allowed people to gather food, carry resources, store goods, and live in harmony with the natural world. Set within the historically rich landscape of Park In The Past, this course introduces you to the techniques used to create fish and crab traps suitable for both inland and coastal environments. Guided by primitive skills instructor Billy Souter, you’ll explore traditional basketry methods, experiment with natural fibres, and craft your own woven creation using skills as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. Ideal for both beginners and returning bushcraft practitioners, this course offers an opportunity to reconnect with the landscape through slow, mindful craft. You’ll develop confidence in using simple tools, working with plant roots and bark, and understanding how material selection shapes the form and function of traditional woven traps and containers. Walking with Trees (July)

MADE SIMPLE – FOR EVERYONE Have you ever paused on a walk and wondered, “What tree is this?” Or spotted a curious flower, unusual leaf, or animal track and wished you had someone there to tell you more? Walking with Trees are free guided walks through beautiful woodland and parkland. Usually taking place on the second Tuesday of the month, we visit a different country park or venue around the Wrexham area to discover beautiful wild places. This month’s walk takes place around the grounds of Erlas Walled Garden where we will get to explore the native trees and orchard as well as get a look at the working vegetable garden themselves. It’s a beautiful hidden gem. When you book your place we will send you full details of where we are meeting. Each month we’ll take our time exploring not just the trees, but all the wild wonders that catch our eye along the way. From wildflowers and edible plants to signs of wildlife and the changing seasons, we’ll follow our curiosity and see where nature leads us. Whether you’re brand new to the natural world or already have a budding interest, this is a relaxed, welcoming way to learn more and connect with the landscape around you.
