Horse-Drawn Barge Cruise with A Cream Tea First we head to Marlborough where much of its great natural beauty is environmentally protected and it offers the discerning visitor a unique blend of modern attractions and facilities. The High Street is one of the widest in the UK and lined on both sides with characterful old buildings housing an array of high quality shops and it will also be market day. After a couple of hours in Marlborough we leave to go and enjoy a delightful and gentle afternoon out on the Kennet & Avon Canal, perfect for those who prefer to take life at a slower, more enjoyable pace. Travel aboard a traditional horse-drawn barge operated by the Kennet Horse Boat Company, where a magnificent Shire horse pulls the boat smoothly and quietly along the canal — a wonderfully peaceful way to see the countryside. Once comfortably seated, simply relax and watch the scenery drift by while a traditional cream tea is served on board. There’s no rushing, no crowds, and no steep walking — just time to sit back, chat, and enjoy the moment.

Travel in beautifully restored Pullman cars, purpose-built as first-class dining carriages, where timeless elegance meets attentive service. Rich wood panelling, classic upholstery, and immaculate table settings recreate the luxury once enjoyed by Britain’s most discerning railway passengers. As our coach pulls into Northiam Station at 12.30pm, the Pullman train will be waiting for us. As you reach the platform, Pulman Carriage Company uniformed staff will greet you with an aperitif before helping you to your own reserved table with personalised named place cards and Pullman Menu. From this moment onwards the Pullman Carriage Company staff will attend to your every need and silver serve your meal, just as they would have done back in the 1920s & 30s. Remember, you have staff at home to attend to your every need but on the railway it was the Pullman Carriage Company staff that continued the personal service you are use to.
