Public Knitting Event: Les Tricoteuse

Marking Ruddington’s 40th anniversary of being twinned with Grenay in France, the Framework Knitters Museum will be celebrating France, Bastille Day and Les Tricoteuse, the radical knitters of the French Revolution, with a public knitting day in our Summer House. Les Tricoteuse were the radical women of the French Revolution who sat next to the guillotine, knitting as heads rolled. Many of these women had been involved in early outbursts of the Revolution, such as marching to Versailles in October 1789 to protest against rising prices and food shortages. Their knitting became a key symbol of resistance. No need to book, just drop in at any time and enjoy sharing your craft with others. Suitable for all ages and all skill levels, and so bring your own project along and enjoy knitting together in our Summer House. Please feel free to dress appropriately for this French themed event.
