The BAS aircraft fleet spend half the year in Antarctica, facilitating a plethora of scientific research projects and supporting the movement of people and equipment across the Continent. The ferry flights the aircraft undertake between their home bases in Canada and Antarctica are an adventure in themselves; 55 flying hours and over 11 days as the aircraft cross North, Central and South America. When not in Antarctica, BAS aircraft support a wide variety of airborne scientific research in places as varied as Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, Brazil, Bolivia, Italy and Barbados.
