10.30am-12noon, Thursdays, building // £54 for the course // This course celebrates the breakthroughs that transformed films and how we experience them. Focusing on landmark transformations in sound, colour and vision, we will explore how each breakthrough expanded what cinema could express, who it could reach and how audiences could see, think & feel. Through iconic films and class discussion, join Julia to learn about cinema’s past and its enduring source of inspiration, creativity and cultural power. What You’ll Learn: Identify pivotal moments that transformed cinema history Understand how sound, colour, and vision reshaped cinematic storytelling Build a sense of community through discussing cinema’s impact. Who It’s For: This course is for anyone who loves film and wants to understand cinema better. Whether you’re interested in film and the arts or simply curious about how cinema became what it is today, please join us. No prior film knowledge is needed - just an open mind and a love of watching films. Who Delivers It? Dr Julia Wagner is a lecturer and writer specialising in Jewish-interest film and television. She holds a PhD in Film Studies and is a member of the London Film Critics’ Circle. Her writing has been published widely, including by the BFI, Sight & Sound and The Jewish Chronicle. From 2017-23, she curated JW3/BFI archive project, Jewish Britain on Film.
