About this event

As part of our May Day celebrations, on Sunday 3rd May,  a team from the Framework Knitters Museum will be based in Lambley Village Hall celebrating the lost springtime tradition of Cowslip Sunday. Lambley, just 6 miles north of Nottingham, was one of the prime sites for framework knitting during the nineteenth century. This was also the time when Cowslip Sunday was celebrated by the local stockingers and their families. More details about the history and heritage of Cowslip Sunday can be found here … East Midlands folklore | Folklore of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Lincolnshire | Page 3 For Cowslip Sunday in 2026, the Museum will be reviving the tradition with a host of free activities … An opportunity to have a go on one of our circular knitting machines Full information about the work of the Framework Knitters Museum Demonstrations and workshops from the Notts Guild of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers A unique workshop to help us to bring life to our knitted Green Man Live music from John Crawford Cakes and refreshments from Lambley WI Family storytelling Displays from Lambley Historical Society and Lambley Reed Pond Group Our day of FREE ACTIVITIES run from 11am to 3pm and so we look forward to seeing you there.
