Woodwork 4 days foundation course

Four days rota is as follows, (1-to-1 tuition). Day 1: Wood preparation with precise measurements and marking. Footstool build start to finish. Hand tools introduction including planes, chisels, marking gauges, steel rule, set squares, etc. Day 2: Choice of jewellery box making (or bandsaw box) including wood inlays and corner keys, wood sanding and finishing, including hinges, etc. Hardwoods and softwoods explained. Day 3: To make accurate wood joints by hand including half-laps, bridle joints, mitre joints and mortice and tenons, etc. Explain the use of Templates and Jigs in wood projects. Day 4: Bandsaw box making or scroll saw practical and how to keep your tools razor sharp using a diamond stone. All other 240 v machinery demonstrated like Mitre saw, Routers, Bandsaw, Planners, Drill press, Plunge saws, Dremel, etc. Finishing the day with some important health and safety measures to keep you safe. Woodwork Day Course

On the basic woodwork day we will make 3x joints by hand tools only. We will start with accurate marking and measuring using the set square, steel ruler and other marking tools. These joints will be very useful for your future wood projects and be very strong in practice, also it will give you confidence to tackle other types of more complex joins. No machinery is required to make these joints, as this course is designed to introduce the student to handcrafted woodwork but I will explain how machinery can be used, too. After lunch I will show you different hand plane techniques that I use, and demonstrate how to keep your tools sharp by creating the correct cutting angle, using some diamond stones and oil. Some students bring an old chisel to sharpen if they have one. The course is about 7 hours with 30 minutes for lunch. We start at 9.30am, but I'm flexible on times.

Collage Workshop with Hazel Pitt

Join us for a fun and relaxing evening of collaging. Whether you’re looking to try something new, tap into your creativity, or explore art for wellbeing, this workshop offers a stress-free space to unwind and inspire your creative side. No experience needed. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring any images from books and magazines that resonate with you. This event is for adults. An experienced teacher of many years, she is passionate about using the medium of collage as a therapeutic tool for wellbeing, delivering physical and online workshops within the community.
