Summer HHAH Activities - Magic Show and Workshop with JD Magic

We’re excited to be part of the Happy Healthy Active Holidays (HHAH) Scheme, offering FREE places for children and young people eligible for benefit-related free school meals. It’s the perfect way to stay active, have fun, and enjoy a healthy meal during the school holidays! Our sessions run from 12noon–3pm and are open to children in Reception up to Year 11 (ages 4–16), with a wide range of engaging activities on offer throughout the summer. Here’s the Summer fun we’re bringing your way: – 29 July – Cooking Session with BRB – 30 July – Cheerleading with Cheer Athletics – 31 July – Tile Painting with Craven Dunnill – 5 August – First Aid Session for Children – 6 August – Slime and Fidget Toy Making – 7 August – Science Workshops with Fizz Pop Science – 12 August – Magic Show and Workshop with JD Magic – 13 August – Self Defence with Trinity Martial Arts – 14 August – Pinch Pop and Treasure Bowl Clay Making – 19 August – Puppet Making and Show with Leo Loco’s Circus – 20 August -Exotic Animal Encounter with Exotic Zoo – 21 August – End of Summer Glow Disco Not eligible for HHAH? You can still join the fun! Paid places are available for just £3.00 per child, which also includes lunch. How to book: – HHAH-funded places can be booked online via: https://hhah.telford.gov.uk/ – £3 paid places can be purchased in person at The Wakes on Mondays and Fridays between 10am–2pm Please note: A parent or carer must remain with their child throughout the session.

Residential Writing Course: Narrative Non-Fiction

Writers of narrative non-fiction often tread a delicate line: what might their personal experiences mean in the light of bigger, more global reckonings? And how might these broader themes be made more arresting, more graspable, by threading in a smaller and more personal focus? Whether you’re a non-fiction writer looking for ‘narrative’, or a ‘narrative’ writer wondering if your work speaks to anything beyond your personal experience, whether you’re stuck halfway through a manuscript or just flirting with a couple of initial ideas, this five-day course with acclaimed authors Helen Jukes and Noreen Masud focuses on drawing connections between the big and the small, the personal and the political, in narrative non-fiction. Writing exercises will encourage you to zoom in and out: to write both small and personal, and big and expansive. By the end of the week, you'll have experimented with drilling down to the emotional heart of your narrative non-fiction project, and feeling beyond your own story to explore its wider contexts.
