Aidan Thorne and Jason Ball: Poems of a Space CAM35 with guest support from Toby Hay

With the support of Noson Allan we are thrilled to be hosting this show: Poems of a Space. This is the second album from the guitarist Jason Ball and bassist Aidan Thorne. All of the compositions on this album were written, arranged, recorded and mixed by the duo. The concept of the album was to invoke nostalgia, rekindle a memory of a time and/or place. The pieces are engulfed in a fog of guitar ambience and measured 6 string bass textures. As with their previous release, Archwilio’r Traddodiad | Exploring the Tradition there is an emphasis on experiences within the Welsh landscape. The song Banc Y Celyn, refers to the hill overlooking Aidans home in Powys. And the track Clouds, was written after a hike up the Sugar Loaf near Abergavenny. Deeply rooted in jazz, the style carefully glides between written and improvised elements. Some of the compositions were realised and refined from recordings of loose jam sessions. One may hear nods to influences from 70’s ECM records such as Terje Rypdall or Bill Frizell. “……. A fantastic deep dive into lesser-known Welsh folk tunes” Archwilio’r Traddodiad | Exploring the Tradition Jude Rodgers, The Guardian “An unforgettable musical experience” **** Ian Mann, Jazzmann Blog “……… a beguiling instrumental set that transmogrifies folk songs into delicate, exploratory improvisations. Throughout, combining a resonating bowed bass with guitar work redolent of John McLaughlin on Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way.

Hannah Sanders and Ben Savage, with Jon Thorne, return to The Muse

We are thrilled to be welcoming back Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage with double bassist Jon Thorne as part of the 2026 UK tour. Critically acclaimed folk duo Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage join forces with virtuoso double bassist Jon Thorne for a special one-off UK tour. With their vintage guitars and heartfelt harmony vocals sharing just a single microphone for pickup, Hannah & Ben’s live shows have always been magical, intimate experiences. This special collaboration with Thorne’s unmistakably rich tone and musical intuition promises to be a balm for the soul. A perfect fit for The Muse, this will be a wonderful evening of music. “Arrestingly beautiful” Songlines Sanders has an alluring mystique and a voice of disarming purity that massages your senses. Savage is a singular guitarist with a sound as distinctive as it is innovative. Together their harmonies and unique stage presence shimmer with an infectious enthusiasm and joy for the connection music offers. They remain passionate advocates for the singularity of a live performance - no night of a Hannah & Ben tour is ever the same - but each one is special. As heartwarming as it is beguiling - 'MOJO‘ 'Really lovely!’ - Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio2 Folk Show “Bewitching harmonies, tasteful twin guitars and a dreamy quality that lingers long after the music ends.” - Daily Express
