Witchcraft in Bexhill & Wider Sussex

From village folklore and cunning folk to infamous witch trials and famous occult figures, this illustrated Bexhill History Hour explores the history of witchcraft in Sussex and beyond. Discover the beliefs, superstitions and stories that shaped generations, alongside the realities behind accusations of black magic and the persecution of alleged witches. Historian David E. P. Dennis examines local traditions alongside the lives of figures including Aleister Crowley, Dion Fortune and Doreen Valiente, placing Sussex at the heart of Britain’s rich and often misunderstood occult heritage. Expect a fascinating journey through folklore, history and legend. The talk takes place at Bexhill Museum on Thursday 23 July, from 2pm–3pm. Admission is £8. SCULPT YOUR PETMake a clay portrait of your pet in this super fun air-dry clay workshop In this very fun air-dry clay workshop, you are given a tutorial to guide you through the key techniques of pet portrait clay-sculpting, before creating your own lovely pet from air-dry clay!Sculpt your cat...your dog...your rat...your hamster! All pets are welcome! Bring a photo of your pet to work from, or if you have a dog why not bring your pooch along to this great dog-friendly bar!Once dry, your sculpture can be used as adorable wall decor, or displayed on the shelf as an ornament.No experience is needed - full guidance and support is provided throughout, along with all the materials and tools you need. Key info: Arrive for a 7pm start, when you'll be given a tutorial of portrait-sculpting techniques. It's not as hard as you think! Across 1.5-2hrs you'll sculpt your gorgeous pet! You'll then take your creation home - it will normally be dry within 48 hours, ready to be painted with acrylic paint if you wish (paints not included)
