Hope Sunset

A hike up Win Hill from Hope to enjoy an evening sunset picnic and stunning views across Ladybower Reservoir and the Hope Valley Welcome to Freshwalks.This sunset hike is part of our own vibrant business community programme and everyone is welcome to join us for a late afternoon and early evening of hiking and networking in the great outdoors. Feel free to come alone – most Freshwalkers do – and you’ll be warmly welcomed or invite a colleague or client along for company. Route description A new Hope Valley route for our sunset series. We’ll leave Hope station and cross farmland as we head across to join the Derwent Valley Heritage Way which takes us north towards Ladybower Reservoir. After skirting the reservoir for a short while, we begin our ascent of Win Hill where we’ll stop for our evening sunset picnic. Win Hill offers superb 360 degree views of the valley below. We’ll then begin our descent back down to Hope Village where we’ll head to the Old Hall Hotel for refreshments before catching the train back home. Pressed in Time: Create Your Own Herbarium Sheet

Discover a fascinating and little-seen part of Calke Abbey’s natural history collection in this thoughtful two-hour evening session inspired by the historic herbarium. You’ll have the opportunity to discover part of the collection and learn more about the plants, records and stories it holds, as this important aspect of Calke’s collection begins to be shared more openly with the public. Taking inspiration from the herbarium itself, you’ll then create your own herbarium sheets, exploring the beauty of plant preservation, observation and botanical storytelling, and beginning your own Herbarium journey. Blending creativity, curiosity and a closer look at Calke’s natural heritage, this session offers a rare chance to engage with the past while making something of your own to take away.
