Emmetts Garden Autumn Festival: Muisc on the Meadow

As part of the Autumn Fair weekend, relax and enjoy live performances from two talented local concert bands against the backdrop of Emmetts Garden in its autumn colours. On Saturday 10 October, Medway Concert Brass will perform at 12 noon and 2pm, followed by Biggin Hill Concert Band on Sunday 11 October at 12 noon and 2pm. Bring a picnic blanket or folding chair, find a spot on the meadow and soak up the festival atmosphere while enjoying a varied programme of music, from film themes and popular classics to traditional favourites. Performances are free with normal admission or National Trust membership and take place alongside the Autumn Fair Makers Market.

Emmetts Garden Autumn Festival: Photography Workshop

Be inspired by nature and autumn colours and join us on this half day photography workshop at Emmetts Garden to learn all about your camera and how to take stunning photos as you go. The course uses the natural environment at Emmetts Garden as a subject and is designed for people who have a camera with a short-range zoom lens (24-70mm is ideal.) The course will run from 9.30am-1pm, with a hot drink and cake included in the price. The price also includes your garden entry. Suitable for all abilities. If you enrol on the course, you will receive further information to help you to get the most out of the day. About the course leader: Roger Bloxham is an experienced photographer returning to Emmetts Garden Autumn Festival to lead his ever-popular workshops.

Autumn Talks at Emmetts Garden: The Science of Magic Mushrooms with Dr David Luke–Sat

Back by popular demand, Dr David Luke presents a fascinating talk exploring the connections between people, plants and consciousness. Blending science with cultural insight, this engaging session invites you to see the natural world in a new light and reconsider our relationship with it. Drawing on recent research into magic mushrooms, will explore the growing scientific interest in substances such as psilocybin, examining their effects on the brain, wellbeing and human experience. This is a rare opportunity to learn the chemistry, neuroscience and psychology of magic mushrooms. Accessible, intriguing and rich with insight, this talk opens new ways of thinking about nature and our place within it. Followed by a Q&A. About the speaker: Dr David Luke is Professor of Exceptional Experience at the University of Greenwich. He leads the Psychedelic and Exceptional Experience Lab (PEEL) within the Centre for Mental Health. He is a Perrott-Warrick Senior Researcher, via Trinity College, Cambridge and directs the Lucid Dream Precognition Project. Hear from an exceptional line-up including ‘The Black Gardener’ (Danny Clarke), Frances Tophill, Adam Frost and Dr David Luke. Across the day, explore a diverse programme of ideas – from gardening, design and creativity to our relationship with the natural world and the science of magic mushrooms, all set against the beautiful autumn colours of Emmetts Garden. The Saturday Early Bird Day Pass gives you access to the day’s four talks. This is a great way to make the most of your day during the Autumn Talks Weekend. Talks run from mid-morning through to late afternoon, each followed by a Q&A session. Early bird full-day passes for Saturday 17 October are available for £50 until 31 August (a savings of £22 if booking all of Saturday’s talks individually). About the walk leader: Tansy Dowman is an award-winning Forest Bathing practitioner, TEDx speaker and outdoor wellbeing facilitator specialising in Nature Connection, mindful walking and workplace wellbeing. Through her work, Tansy helps people reconnect with themselves and the natural world through calming, sensory-led experiences designed to reduce stress, support wellbeing and encourage a deeper sense of presence and connection. Followed by a Q&A. About the speaker: Danny Clarke is a garden designer who shot to fame in 2015 as BBC’s Instant Gardener. He runs his own garden design company, the Black Gardener and co-directs CIC Grow 2 Know, bringing horticulture to young people and disadvantaged communities.
