The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

From small rooms above old pubs to the world’s greatest stages, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain have spent four decades delighting audiences with their off-beat humour, impeccable musicianship and irresistible charm. Formed in 1985 as an antidote to the ego-driven bluster of the music industry, “The Ukes” quickly became unlikely superheroes of the international touring circuit, spreading their irrepressible magic from Australasia to the North Pole, and from Windsor Castle to Carnegie Hall. Playful, virtuosic and wickedly amusing, these genre-bending rebels have lasted longer than Led Zeppelin and The Beatles combined, and have played more gigs than The Rolling Stones. Direct from London’s world-famous jazz club and combining world-class live jazz, narration, rare archive photos, and video footage, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars take to the stage to celebrate the ‘The Ronnie Scott’s Story’. Set amongst the dive bars and jazz jook joints of London’s Soho, we hear about the desperate hand-to-mouth finances of the early years and the frequent police raids. We hear how Ronnie’s became neutral ground within rife gang territory and their scrapes with gangsters including the Krays who were rumoured to have taken Ronnie Scott “for a little drive”! Life at Ronnie’s is evocatively reimagined through tales of the club’s past visitors, from pop stars, film stars and politicians to comedians and royalty – but above all, the musicians. Mixing classic music from the jazz greats who have performed at Ronnie Scott’s over its incredible history, alongside tales of old Soho, miscreant musicians, and police raids, this is a unique evening celebrating one of the world’s most famous venues, its music, and history.

This year, Belle and Sebastian are celebrating 30 years of Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister by performing the iconic albums in full during a series of two-night stands at classic venues across the UK, Europe, US, Canada, and Mexico. As part of the celebrations, they head to Bexhill this December to play ‘If You’re Feeling Sinister’ in full, followed by a second set of everyone’s favourite B&S tunes. First released in 1996, both records have long-since attained mythic status – “greatest of all time” list fixtures with songs that have spent decades populating mixtapes and playlists. Pitchfork called Tigermilk “immaculate” and The Guardian praised If You’re Feeling Sinister as “subtly poetic, wickedly funny, and gorgeously melodic.” Each evening will focus on one record, followed by a second set of classic B&S tunes. Last year, Stuart Murdoch released his debut novel, Nobody’s Empire, which the Guardian praised as, “Radiantly written.” In 2023, Belle and Sebastian released Late Developers, the second of two back-to-back albums following 2022’s A Bit of Previous. It is a full-hearted embrace of the band’s brightest tendencies that is not only fresh and immediate, but possessing that B&S je ne sais quoi. “Like If You’re Feeling Sinister, this is a near-simultaneous follow-up that’s somehow even better than its acclaimed predecessor,” wrote Pitchfork.
