My First Museum Tour - Summer

Join us at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery where we are giving families the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed, child friendly tour of the museum.We'll discuss what makes a museum, discover some of the history of the museum, examine the exhibits and most importantly, show you how to make the most of your visit!Our Museum & Art Gallery has many opportunities for families to enjoy themselves, including reading corners to spaces for drawing.To start the tour, we will meet at the top of the stairs by the main entrance. From there, we will explore most of the museum. The museum is accessible via a lift on Edmund Street or steps on Chamberlain Square.

Join us for some creative crafts during the school holidays. Led by our museum learning team, each workshop will follow a different activity every week throughout the school holidays.Week 1 - Clay SculptingWeek 2 - Felt Flower BouquetsWeek 3 - Fabric WeavingWeek 4 - Tile DecoratingWeek 5 - Pattern PrintingWeek 6 - Clay Coil PotsEvent Information:Workshops will take place each week on Mondays, Wednesdays and FridaysSessions run at 10:30am, 12pm and 1:30pm and last for approximately 1 hourTickets cost £3.50 per child (Member tickets cost £3)Accompanying adult tickets are freeUnder 3s can attend for free, however activity is aimed at older childrenAll children must be accompanied by an adultMuseum entry is freeSpace is accessible via a liftThis event will take place in The Studio, which can be found next to the Pre-Raphaelite Galleries. To reach The Studio from the Main Entrance, walk up the stairs into the Round Room, continuing straight ahead through the Bridge Gallery, which currently holds our Ozzy Osbourne Exhibition. Then, turn right then quickly left past the Toilets, into the Wild City Gallery. Once you walk through the double doors and pass into the Pre-Raphaelite Galleries, The Studio is on the left. Soundbaths with the Manoj Collective

A reset ritual to help you relax, unwind and feel deeply soothed in the sanctuary of Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.Over 60 minutes, you’ll be guided by local sound practitioner Manoj of Manoj Collective through an immersive sound journey. Using a range of instruments including crystal bowls, gongs and chimes, the session unfolds within our beautiful Pre-Raphaelite Galleries. Surrounded by art and held in the tranquillity of the space, you’ll be invited into a state of deep relaxation and gentle connection with your inner world.The benefits of sound meditation are wide-ranging, from calming the nervous system to supporting rest and clarity, but it’s something that truly needs to be experienced to be understood.Good to knowPlease arrive 15 minutes early to settle into the space. Doors open at 5:45pm. Entrance will be the Gas Hall and the lift entrance. The sound experience begins promptly at 6pm. To preserve the safety of the space, unfortunately latecomers will not be admitted. Comfortable clothing is recommended as we will be lying down or seated for the session. All equipment is provided, including blankets, cushions and yoga mats. You are welcome to bring anything extra to help you feel comfortable. Maybe an extra blanket, chunky socks or an eye pillow.Our mats are 173mm long, 61mm wide, and 6mm thick.
