Dig for replica Roman artefacts in our special excavation trench and learn how to identify, record, and uncover hidden treasures—just like a real archaeologist. Discover, Investigate, Identify, Reconstruct … just like real archaeologists! What new and exciting things will you discover? Sessions available at 11am and 12pm Monday to Friday between 23 July - 28 August, £6 per child in addition to entrance to The Roman Baths. Information: Archaeology Adventures is a special add-on to your visit to The Roman Baths. Please note: • You'll need both a Roman Baths admission ticket and a separate ticket for the Archaeology Adventure session. • To ensure you arrive at the Great Bath in time for your session, please book your museum entry at least one hour before your Archaeology Adventure begins. • Meet the Roman Baths Learning Team by the Great Bath at the start of your session. • After your Archaeology Adventure, you're welcome to re-enter the museum and continue exploring. • Recommended for children aged 6–12. About A magical afternoon of dance designed especially for families and young children, featuring a truly special, world-class ballet performance. This inspiring event offers a rare chance to experience the beauty of dance up close and to spark the imagination of the next generation. This year's Matinée will be hosted by the acclaimed James Bamford of Project Dance, alongside talented young Bahamian students performing live on stage. The programme will include: • A behind-the-scenes introduction to theatre magic, including lighting, music, and stagecraft • Two short professional ballet performances • A lively, high-energy finale where children are invited on stage to join in the dancing Whether your child already attends dance classes or has never experienced a live performance before, this is a wonderful opportunity to discover the joy of ballet in a fun, engaging, and welcoming environment. All proceeds support The Dicky Buckle Fund, which champions new work by emerging choreographers, dancers, and designers. Many of these works premiere at Hatch House before touring nationally and internationally. To stay on for the full dress rehearsal of the Hatch Ballet following the Children's Matinée performance, a family add-on ticket is available (covering up to two adults and three children). Drinks, hot dogs and ice creams will be available from the bar. You are very welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy after the Matinée.

Crofton Beam Engines in Steam

About Crofton Beam Engines pumping station will be open and steaming the 25th and 26th of July. Site opening times on both days, 10:00 – 16:30. Visitors can come and see our magnificent beam engines at work pumping water 40 feet up to feed the Kennet and Avon Canal at its's highest point, just as they have done for over 200 years. For adults and Children: Our engines are housed in a magnificent Grade I listed Georgian Building, spread over four floors. Our two beam engines fill the building and are almost silent when working. Talk to our knowledgeable volunteers about what you are seeing and how the engines work. Children and adults alike enjoy watching the engine drivers at work, controlling several tons of beam on the floor above them. Next to our engine house is our boiler house, where steam is raised to drive the engines. The skill of stoking a boiler to make the fire as efficient as possible is clearly demonstrated by our team of boiler people. Duck Race Our famous duck race takes place every day at 12:35. Watch the ducks pour out of the our pumps and race away down the leat. Choose your duck, enter it into the race, entry per duck £1 to win a prize your duck must come first or last . For children: This weekend's activities for children include the Crofton Trail, a beautifully designed trail by local artist Dru Marland. The trail will take you round the site, once completed there is a small prize and sticker for each completed trail leaflet.

Summer Fayre comes to Historic St. Peter's Church near Wilton

About A traditional Summer Fayre is set to bring the community spirit back to St Peter's Church in Fugglestone, Wilton. Step back in time into a celebration of community, tradition, and summer charm. Play traditional games like Cornhole, Ring Toss and "Walk the trail". A programme of entertainment will enhance the festive atmosphere, featuring traditional Morris dancing alongside performances by local musicians. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy recitals on a hand-pumped pipe organ, a rare and historic musical treasure in the church. To complete the experience, a selection of cream teas and other refreshments will be available throughout the event. The event is organised by the Fugglestone St Peter Trust, a community-led initiative working to secure lottery funding for the restoration and revitalisation of the church building. Trustees will be on hand throughout the afternoon to discuss plans for expanding the church's role as a community space—and visitors can even take aim at them with wet sponges in a traditional pillory. Whether you come with family, friends, or simply a curiosity for local heritage, there will be something to please everyone.
