In times gone by music was as much a pastime as it was for performance. Whilst most royal courts had resident musicians who would entertain and accompany dances and balls, music also had a place in the homes of the times. Local early musicians, Dulciana , model the familial pastime of the era by sharing authentic music of the time playing a range of period instruments including recorders, crumhorns, curtal, flutes, lute and citole. They will be showcasing the early clarinet and precursor, the chalumeau. This is not a formal performance but a living history of how music would have been shared and even discovered together around hearths and fireplaces of houses such as East Riddlesden Hall. Normal admission applies, free entry for National Trust members and under fives. Booking not necessary.

From 25 July to 31 August, join us for croquet in the Wild Garden, hopscotch and chalk games and even try your hand at putting on your own puppet show. Why not enjoy an ice cream in the tearoom or relax at a shady picnic spot in the gardens? Put your sun hat on and come and make the most of being outdoors this summer. Discover our weekly drop in classes too, with PT sessions on Mondays, yoga on Tuesdays and dancing sessions on Wednesdays every week throughout the summer.

Guided Walk: Introduction to Hiking

Join us for a circular walk. Leaving the property and heading along the Leeds & Liverpool canal then making our way up to the hillside for views across the Aire Valley. We will take different routes but each walk is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours in length and includes some hilly and uneven terrain. The walks are of moderate difficulty, we suggest that this walk is for those people who are not regular walkers who might like to try something more challenging in a group setting or for experienced walkers looking for an easy new route. Please dress in suitable clothing and footwear. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads and under close control. Meeting Point - picnic benches in front of hall Free of charge

Cafe Life

Café Life provides SPACE – to talk, listen and watch. Café Life also provides TIME – to relax, rewind and relate. It’s open every Wednesday from 10:30am to 12.00pm. The world is constantly changing and life can become a real challenge, both physically and mentally. We are able to provide food hampers where necessary, and talk through any ‘life’ issues visitors may have.
