What's on in Doxford Park

Tyne & Wear, England

Book clubs, bingo, and the occasional village fête that's surprisingly well organised — Doxford Park punches well above its weight for local events, and Tyne & Wear's all the better for it. You'll find everything from craft workshops the kids won't stop asking about to open mic nights that are genuinely worth staying up past nine for. The big listings sites have never heard of half these venues, which is their loss and your gain. Parish council listings, community centre noticeboards, pub websites we've had to zoom in on to read properly — we've checked them all so you don't have to.

St Mary's, West Rainton

St Mary’s sits in the heart of West Rainton village and provides many functions such as Eucharist services, Weddings, funerals, Baptisms and community events We are a friendly and inclusive church with a wide range of worshippers all enjoying the traditional form of Anglican worship. As we are currently in Vacancy and do not have a Priest in Charge our clergy team consists of Julian Ward who is our Licenced Lay Minister and Mike Whitehouse as our Lay Minister. We do have several local Priests and ministers who are giving their time to assist us in worship. All the decisions about the Church are taken by the Churchwarden and Parochial Church Council within the guidance of the Church of England. We develop our own services such as Café Church, our Remembrance Day service, and our Village Carol Service. We would be delighted to see you at our regular Sunday Churchwarden is Kevon Edis and you can contact Kevon via the details on the left. For wedding, baptism and funeral enquiries please contact our Churchwarden, Kevon, using the number at the left, or see 'Our People During Vacancy' at the left for contact details. St Mary's Church, a grade II* listed building, has stood beautifully in the village for 160 years. The church plays an important role in the community life of the Parish of West Rainton and Leamside. Over the past two years we have raised enough funds and grants to repair both our stonework and knave roof.

Humour ‘Learning Greek UK Tour 2’

Humour live together in Glasgow. They formed across the 2021 lockdowns, writing and recording their material at home, with the music intended as a backdrop to Andreas' lyrics. Sometimes they’re about letting people down, sometimes they’re about pets dying, sometimes they’re about trying to say something when you don’t have anything worth saying. Signing to SoYoung Records off the back of a few rough demos, it was clear Humour had a unique sound. Their first release ‘Yeah, Mud!’ gained critical acclaim from NME, Clash Magazine, DIY, Dork and more. Following multiple plays on Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, and BBC Scotland, the band eventually released their debut EP, ‘Pure Misery’, which quickly established Humour as one of the most exciting acts in the country. They were featured in NME’S 100, BBC Scotland’s Top 25 for 2023, and three tracks from Pure Misery featured in The Herald’s Top 100 Tunes from Scotland in 2022. The band immediately began to tour extensively off the back of the Pure Misery EP, supporting Do Nothing, Folly Group, Egyptian Blue, and Enumclaw at gigs and festivals across the UK, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The band were then invited across the Atlantic to showcase at SXSW, where they packed out venues across Austin, TX. They followed this up with a debut UK headline tour, including shows in Brighton, London, Margate, Leeds, and Newcastle.
