Guildford sits on the River Wey and punches well above its weight for things to do on a weeknight. The Boileroom has been putting on gigs for years, the library runs rhyme time sessions that toddlers go absolutely feral for, and there's usually a craft fair within walking distance. Not bad for a Tuesday. Pub quizzes pop up through the week and the odd open mic night keeps things interesting. Near Here pulls it all into one place so you're not stuck checking a dozen websites on a Sunday evening.

Ivan Turgenev was for several decades in the 19th century the most well-know Russian author in western Europe. Although considered a ‘mild-mannered giant’, his works exposed the evils of 19th-century Russian society, causing alarm and suspicion in Russian government circles. Indeed, Tsar Alexander II acknowledge that Turgenev’s works influenced his decision to abolish serfdom in 1861. No previous familiarity with Turgenev’s works is assumed.
