We check the usual frankly silly number of local websites, then look for events that feel rainy-day friendly: cinemas, theatres, talks, workshops, galleries, concerts, cosy venues, and anything less likely to involve standing in a muddy field making brave weather noises.

Evensong and Benediction Evensong and Benediction offer a peaceful and contemplative close to the day, drawing us into the beauty of evening prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Evensong is the Church’s traditional service of evening worship, sung in the rich language of Scripture and prayer. Rooted in the Psalms and the ancient canticles of Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, it includes readings that open the treasures of Scripture and the writings of the saints, helping us to reflect more deeply on the mystery of faith. The music and words together lift our hearts in thanksgiving and trust, reminding us of God’s abiding presence. Following Evensong, we enter into Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament — a time of stillness and awe before Christ present in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is placed upon the altar, and we adore the Lord in silence and song, receiving his blessing in the sign of the Cross. Evensong and Benediction together unite the beauty of Anglican worship with the deep devotion of Catholic tradition: word and sacrament, praise and presence, rest and renewal in the love of Christ.
