Beyond Fear and Tribalism: Conscience in Uncertain Times Format: Presentation & Discussion Doors: 6.30pm Event: 7pm - 9pm In an increasingly polarised world, we can easily find ourselves trapped in moral and political conflicts with family, friends, colleagues and even strangers online. With strong emotions locking our attention, how do we get better at understanding other people’s moral points of view? How do we recognise and work with our own blind spots or fixed ideas? Could the answer lie in a recognition that stages in our moral development are shaped by our needs to feel safe, valued, heard and to belong? Can this knowledge help us to understand other people's behaviour and, indeed, our own? This evening with Ezra Hewing (Suffolk mind) explores how to reach beyond our own emotional needs, towards a liberated conscience which is not ruled by our own biases. We will explore: The needs behind our moral development The evolutionary value of conscience Navigating relationships within polarised communities Establishing a moral footing amongst competing versions of reality

About SAX Community Fridge What? The SAXCF is a local Community Fridge project set up in response to the issue of food waste. Come along to our sessions to pick up surplus good food donated by local supermarkets, bakeries, greengrocers and even a farm shop. These donations are items which are near or past their 'best before date' and which would otherwise have been thrown away – but note we're NOT a food bank – you're helping us to fight food waste! We offer free coffee, cake and biscuits and we actively encourage people to stay for a while and chat. When? Monday and Friday 10:30am-11:30am behind the Old Bank building in Saxmundham (The entrance is via an alleyway from the High Street between the Old Bank and Jennie Jones estate agents). Wickham Market Annual Village Show Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd August 2026. The 75th year of the Wickham Market Village Show for 2026 will take place in the Village Hall this summer on 1st and 2nd August 2026. The theme for 2026 will be ‘British Birds’ This theme will be reflected in some classes in the categories of photography, cookery, floral, children and youth, arts and crafts. There will be a few changes to the vegetable, flowers and other produce classes – see schedule for details. The schedule (listing the classes) with entry forms will be ready for pickup at local businesses, the primary school, and locations in Wickham Market. Also in digital form from our Facebook page: Wickham Market Village Show. If you are able to help either with extensive preparations for the show or over the weekend (setting out signage, tables, and displays; serving café refreshments; tending the raffle; looking after parking; welcoming visitors; packing away), please get in touch (details below). Offers of cake baking for the café are welcome, as are raffle gifts and items for the tombola stall.
